Welcome to Rootschat but we will need a bit more information to help you.
The only William Captain that shows up in index to civil registrations was born 1925 in Dublin North registration district so if that's your grandfather we won't be able to help you as Rootschat isn't a site for looking for 'recent' relatives and you can't post details of living people here.
If the above record isn't your grandfather's birth perhaps you can start by giving us an idea of when your grandparents might have married and we'll work from there.
-
If you had a copy of your grandparents marriage it will probably show the name of Margaret Flynn's father and her death certificate would give an age at birth and while that is not always precise it is helpful information for a further search. When you have that information you could try searching the civil registration index for Roscommon at http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=0
Hope this is of help

It's a bit confusing as your 1st post said you grandfather's name was William Captain and now you say he was called William John Capitano. The date of marriage was not mentioned earlier.
You can search index to civil registrations here for your relatives (William John Capitano's marriage in 1931 is listed) and with the index details you can order certificates:

I no it is very confusing, my great grandfather was from italy and came to belfast were my grandfather was born, the thing is their name was spelt so many different ways. we only found this out in the 1911 census. i found the real name on the family search today and the marriage date that was the details i sent you in that pm today, thank you for your help. could you please tell me how i can get the marriage certificate. do i write to them ? Thanks again for your help. cathy.

Look up the marriage in the index (link posted above)- search under William Capitano and the 1931 marriage is the only entry.
Then, with the index details (name, year/quarter, registration district, volume and page number) order the certificate from GRO:

Hi Kathy, you messaged me but I can't find out how to reply! Havn't been on her for a long time.
My Flynn's come form County Wexford, I do know that my great-grandfather came from the West of Ireland, but I have not yet discovered his birth place. Will get back to it again one day, as you have probably discovered it cant be quite time consuming! Good luck.
-
hi there you are right it would melt your head doing all this, lol, do you have any idea what your great grandfather was called ?
-
Hi Cathy, Not absolutely sure, but probably Michael Flynn, as that has been the eldest son right up until my own brother, again without an exact date and place of birth it is a useless task as it is such a common name. I must get back to my Wexford research and see if I can find where they were from, family rumour has it as Connemara, but which bit I don't know. Reputedly two brothers came east during or just after the famine and another brother went to America. None of this is verified and all those who could give me further info are long gone sadly. We now of course have an English branch of Flynns. They are small in number though, My brother's son and his son are the only males.
Happy hunting!
Molly
