Title: William CLAYPOLE (b1737) Great Easton
Post by: Newfloridian on Wednesday 10 June 09 10:50 BST (UK)
Is there any evidence that William CLAYPOLE of Great Easton was married twice? I have a record of a marriage to Alice Cunningham (or Cunnington) in 1761 at All Saints Church - followed by four children: William, John, Mary (died aged  4) and Mary.
I have recently been offered a second family which propogates from a common ancestry (John Claypole and Mary Carr) through William CLAYPOLE and Mary (surname unknown) who married in 1770 and produced three children: Elizabeth, John and Ann

I have a feeling there may be two William Claypoles - the first belonging to John and Mary. In that case, who were the parents of the other one?
A look up would be very helpful. Many thanks
Alan

Have you investigated possible family connections between the Claypoles of Gt. Easton and the Cleypole/Claypole/Claypooles of Northborough?

Hi Barry

Yes - and almost certainly there isn't - at least at any time after the early to mid 17th century. As far as we can tell, the Great Easton family can be traced back to about 1650 in Medbourne, Leicestershire but nothing to tue them to the family of Sir John Claypole and therefore Oliver Cromwell

Hi again Mike

Perhaps I should rephrase my original query (2009) with some updated information. The same missing link still pertains.

William Claypole married Alice Cunningham (Cunnington) at All Saints Church, Easton, Northamptonshire (not Great Easton) on Dec 12th 1761 (and had four children) My source said that he had been born in Medbourne, Leicestershire in 1737 (but couldn't substantiate that)

I DO have a William Claypole - also born in Medbourne in 1737 / 8 (the son of John Claypole and Mary Carr) and baptised in Great Easton in January 1738. He married Mary Sharpe in Great Easton in December 1770

It is the second William Claypole that I can trace back to Robert Claypole of about 1640. As far as is known this Robert Claypole had at least ten children. It is also the second William Claypole who is my 4th great grandfather.

It would be of considerable interest to know whether there is a relationship between the two Williams.

Kind regards

Alan

(I have not tried to differentiate the spelling variations of the surname)
