I have a 1901 census for my great grandparents, the Stewart family in Seggie Pl Manse Rd, Motherwell, Dalziel and the Heggie family, Braeside Cottage, Kirk Brae, Cambusnethan (being my grandmothers maternal grandparents, whom the family resided with in the prior census).
The siblings of my grandmother were recorded,
James -12
Agnes -10
William- 4
but my grandmother who was aged 3 was not present at either addresses.
Did local hospitals have census available?
Appreciate any suggestions or lookups.

Hi
What was Grandmother's name & surname and place of birth?
Where are her parents in 1901?
Maybe we can help try to find her

Hi Ambly,
My grandmother's name was Nana Lennox Stewart, born 1898, (sorry don't have day or month, have an inkling it was July) Parents being William Stewart and Jeanie (nee Heggie) Stewart. Place of birth in either Wishaw or Motherwell, Lanarkshire.
Hope you can find some more, or exact info.
Regards,
Deb

Hi Deb
I see her parents William & Jeannie STEWART and 3 children you mention, in Motherwell in 1901.
In 1891, William and Jeannie STEWART and their 2 children are at Braeside Cottage, Kirk Brae in Cambusnethan at the home of Jeanni's parents, the HEGGIE's.
Baby Agnes is just 9 months old.
On Scotlands People:
There is no birth male or female registered between 1895 and 1901 and up to 1911 with the forname *len*x and surname St*rt in whole of Scotland, let alone Lanarkshire. Nor is there anyone with the forename "Nana".
There is a single birth of a female in Lanarkshire with the surname St*rt and forname *len*x between 1881 and 1901. It was in 1890 and she was: Agnes Lennox Stewart, birth registered in Cambusnethan.
This birth registration looks like baby Agnes from the 1891 Census, despite the 1891 and 1901 both saying Agnes was born in Wishaw.
Now, it is not unknown for Agnes to be pet-named to Nancy or Nan - I have seen instances of both (and one of my gtxgrans was Agnes, known as "Nancy"). In Scotland, Ann and Agnes can also be interchanged, especially in earlier records. Nan, is also seen as a pet-form for Ann (I have one of those in my tree, too!) . In addition, of course, "Nana" is a pet-form of "Grandmother".
Are you sure your Gran is not actually Agnes? When your grandmother married, what name was it under (who did she marry?) and how old was she stated to be on the marriage?
Cheers

Hi again Deb
Intrigued by possible intrigue, I went looking for more - and came across an older topic of yours.
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,278983.msg1627802.html#msg1627802
I do see these registrations in NZ:
MARRIAGE: 1922: Nana Lennox STEWART and Edwin Arthur EMMETT
DEATH: 1961: Nana Lennox EMMETT age 64
As well as Find My Past - "Ancestors on board" as you mention:
http://www.ancestorsonboard.com/
Nana STEWART 28 departing Southampton in 1920 for NZ, with an Archibald STEWART on the same ship.
And you have said : Nana is a Masseuse, age 26,British and Archibald STEWART , Blacksmith, age 28, born Scotland)boarded the 'Athenic' in Southhampton 29th July 1920 and arrived in Auckland New Zealand 15th September 1920.
Seems granmother has left a few mysteries to clear up! My questions/comments would have to be exactly the same as Monica has asked in the last posts on that topic :)
Not sure if you saw Monica's reply though?
How have you come to settle on the Stewart & Heggie family as the one to which Grandmother belongs?
Cheers

Hi Ambly,
Thank you so much for your efforts.
I am beginning to think Agnes and Nana are the one and same.
I have a photos of Jeanie Heggie. My grt granparents lived in New Zealand for a few years when my grandmother was first married and returned to Scotland in the 1930s.My late father and mother(who has dementia now) had confirmed Jeanie's identity.
Also her and William Stewart are listed on Nana's marriage certificate along with William Cook Stewart, who I am assuming as her brother.
I am begiining to think Archibald Stewart was of no significance on the trip out of Southampton.
And it is interesting that you say that nancy can be another name aligned with Agnes, as her children were named Stewart, Jeanne and Nancy!
I was suspecting that she was a privately adopted child, however, her mother Jeannie, her daughters, my sisters and maternal girl cousins, all look alike, freakingly!
So, she may have lied about her age and is actually Agnes. My mother said there are too many skeletons in the closet and didn't devulge such personal information.
Why did our previous generations keep so many secrets. Although, have to say the detective work is fun.
Thank you again, Ambly
Deb :)
