Hi bjames57
Looking at the local newspapers for Batley there was a George Sheard who was very much into local politics, opposed the supply of gas to the town, and lived at the Woodlands, Upper Batley.
Is he one of your Sheards; He had a daughter called Fanny and a son called Percy?
On the other hand a Mark Sheard lived at Middle Road, Earlsheaton, Dewsbury in 1882, where he sold soda Ash at £6 a ton and another Mark Sheard was charged with manslaughter at Soothill, not far from Batley, in 1853.

bjjames57,
May I ask if your SHEARDS were nonconformists? I have a batch of Sheards who were and were in Halifax in mid 19th C... wondering if we have anything in common here...

Hi Charlotte,
My Sheards were centred in and around Dewsbury / Mirfield, my great grandmother prefered chapel to church but all were baptised and married in church.
But I beleive all Sheards are somewhat related if the evidence I have collected is anything to go by certainly all Sheards with northern heritage.
Best wishes
Barry

The Census info for 1891 and for 1901 are in fact my family they were living in New Street Batley Carr, both John and Isabella lived virtually their entire lives there.
Mark Anson Sheard was born 27th January 1868 the eldest child of John and Isabella who were married in Batley on 11th November 1865 at Batley Parish Church. George my great grandfather was born 2nd December 1881 he was a collier and moved to Barnsley somewhere around 1911/12. So he was not either of the George Sheards you identifed Tom although the drama sounds rather interesting.
I am looking for Mark Anson's descendents in the vaine hope that they might have some photos of John and Isabella as I am sure that some where taken my grandmother remebers oil paintings of them but no one can agree what happened to them my dad is of the opinion they were quite damaged and thrown away by my grandmother's younger sister, my grandmother believes they were put in the attic and left, and never retrieved when the house was sold.
I have a pretty good handle on my Sheard line back to 17th Century but am much more interested in gathering together shared stories about John and Isabella who both died by the time my great grandfather was 13.
Thanks for all the interest

Barry,
I've only just started looking back at my Sheard relatives and came across your post looking for Mark Anson Sheard. He was my my great grandfather and I have some photos of him and his wife Emma, his sons William Fenton (usually known as Fenton) and Joe. I'm not sure if I have a photo of Mark Anson's parents but I do have some photos of older members of the Sheard connection.
So if you're still active on this site, let me know.

Hi Sylvia
I can tell you a lot about our common ancestry where your Mark Abson Sheard was the eldest son of John and Isabel Sheard (née Burnley). My great grandad George was the youngest son and child.
I have few photos but I have birth certificates and have traced the Sheards through several generations so have quite a lot to share.
I have not looked much at my data for quite a long time now but would love to see your photos and i would love to share what i know.
Barry.
