just got a marriage certificate for gg grandparents

shows ggggrandfathers as --  Hugh Hughes and William Williams

one of the witnesses was Thomas Thomas!

It depends how many Hugh Hughes, William Williams and Thomas Thomas there were in that village at that time.  You might think it a lot easier to research Thomas Harland married to Jane but there were three such couples in Chester le Street about 1800.

Pure thoughtlessness or perhaps deliberate cruelty - have you read Catch 22, which includes the tragic  (fictional) story of Major Major Major.

My GG-Grandmother's father was called David Johnston and she married John Davidson !  I do sometimes get mixed up with them........
