Title: Alice ASHTON
Post by: m.sharp on Tuesday 02 June 09 17:09 BST (UK)
Hello, have discovered my Dads sister Alice nee Sennitt married a Thomas Ashton in Romford, Essex. They had 3 daughters (one apparently died at birth), marriage date 08.02.1920, she was 22 and he was 30, her daughters were all born in Wandsorth in 1924, 26 & 28, names are Bettina J. Pamela M. Lesley G who died. I believe Alice died aged 94 in Havering, Essex. She was born in Friern Barnet, Herts.  I think Thomas originates from either Battersea or Whitton, Surrey. Can anyone tell me is Havering a big town pls? or does anyone have any info on Thomas Ashton or their daughters?  Many thanx.
Mags.

Alice Beatrice Ashton
died Aug 1992
aged 94
born 22/11/1897
Havering

Havering is is Essex, not far from London, it is a registration district, and covers quite a few sub districts, I think Romford might well come in this district
The only way you will find out more is to purchase Alice's death cert, it will give you an address and an address of her informant

Best wishes

If you have the marriage cert it should give Thomas's fathers name and occupation - which might help us find the family in 1901

Havering has been a London Borough since the mid sixties (unfortunately for those of us that live there) and the council office's that run the borough are situated in Romford. Romford it self is a market town whilst Havering is in fact a village to the north of the borough and is known by its full title of Havering atte Bower. The area's that the borough covers are,
Havering atte Bower
Collier Row
Chase Cross
Noak Hill
Harold Hill
Gidea Park
Harold Wood
Ardleigh Green
Emerson Park
Upminster
Romford
Hornchurch
Elm Park
Cranham
North Ockendon
Rainham

As Alice died in the Havering district you could apply for a copy of her death certificate at Langtons Register Office, Langtons House, Billet Lane, Hornchurch RM11 1XL

Thank u all for yr replies, I sent for the cert. of Alice's death in Havering and it's not her!!! The maiden name on cert. is Green and not Sennitt and she was the widow of Stanley Ashton, not Thomas, plus the daughter who registered it doesn't relate.  I'm quite disappointed as i thought this might lead me to my cousins.
The Fathers name on the Marriage cert. is Frederick (deceased), and he was a Superintendant of Telegraphs at the G.P.Office.
We shall persevere tho.
Many thanx once again and sorry to lead u up the garden path, hopefully someone can help tho.
Regards Mags.

Are you wantimg to go further back - or have you already done that (as presumably her parents etc are same as your dads!)
Or are you just wanting to move forward with this branch, trying to find what happened to the surviving daughters.

If so , it is probably just a long haul through the full indexes, quarter by quarter. With an unusual name like Bettina, there may not be many possible marriages to consider.

Hi Lizdb
I would like to find the daughters if they married that is, and have tried wot u suggested and yr right it is a long haul, i would also like to find the origins of Thomas Ashton i.e. where he was born etc., but that is proving hard also, plus finding Frederick, his father.  Yes Alice was my Dads sister with the same parents.
Thank u.

Hiya Lizdb
Crumbs!! There's a mixture of places there, but it may be a possibility, NOW WHY didnt i find that? But Fredk was born in Woolwich tho, so this could be the one!!! I take no notice of where they live in the census as they just seemed to up and leave whenever the fancy took them (or job maybe) a. Dads siblings were born in Friern Barnet, Camberwell, Chelsea and Edmonton and in the 1911 census they were living in Essex, hence the mistaken identity of my death cert. then back to London. Thank u very much for that, but i cant find any marriages for either of the daughters, my Mum always thought they become Nuns, so its possible. Can u search convents on any sites dyu know?
Thanx again Mags.
