Hi,
I was searching for a marriage on scotland's people of John Leckie and Christian Drummond and found the correct one. Clicked to view the image and the image contains the date of marriage for the two people plus all the dates of birth for all their children. The date period is the mid 1700s.
Why would it show all that information? Not that I am complaining lol, as it was great to get everything in one click. All the other surnames on that page, also had the same detailed information.
The area was Muthill, Perthshire and I am trying to see now work out if Christian was related to the Drummond's of Drummond Castle.
Thanks,
-
The information recorded was down to the dedication/enthusiasm/interest or otherwise of the minister of the parish.
Although I have never seen any OPR's as detailed as those you have found I have found some to be very informative while others are brief to the point of being useless.

I presume I was lucky and Muthill had a rather effecient parish at keeping records.

Hi fieryfemale,
We may be connected. I think John Leckie and Christian Drummond are my great x6 grandparents.

oh wow how interesting. John Leckie and Christian Drummond are my 6xgreat grandparents too.
I descend down their daughter Anna Leckie who married James Thomson and then down their son John Thomson, who went to Edinburgh.
Strangely going by the family record on the parish register for Anna and James'. Which lists all their children's names. Their son Peter is down as being born at Drummond Castle. Perhaps Anna was working there. But it seems strange her mother was a Drummond. But then I also think the date is too late as I think the Drummonds had left the castle by then.
Who do you descend down?

Hi All
I am lead to believe the reason for the detailed records for Muthil durring the early to mid 1700s is that during the troubles of the time the session clerk's house was burnt down and a lot of the records that were held there were desroyed. The minister durring the mid 1700s tried to record what information he could get and I think it was a case of knocking on door's forerunner of the current census. I two have records from that period and mine actually gave me 3 generation's on one sheet of paper (gold mine)

Hi fieryfemale,
My great x5 grandparents are James COMRIE (sometimes known as CONON) and Christian LECKIE. I haven't been able to find their marriage in the parish register but strangely enough it is mentioned on IGI (as an extracted record). I wish their children were all listed together. Two of their sons moved to Stirlingshire which is where I fit in. I believe Christian LECKIE's parents are John LECKIE and CHRISTIAN DRUMMOND.
I was at the Mitchell Library yesterday and I had another look at the Muthill Parish Register and BruceL is correct about a fire in the Session Clark's house. There is a note at what would have been the front of a book and it basically says that for the Register of Births it is what "could be recovered from People's memories or their Jottings from 3rd August 1704 to 1st November 1760". John Leckie and Christian Drummond's marriage and children are recorded at the top of the very next page.

Hi Christine
I have traced my own family (Leckie) back to the 1600s, and up until my great grandfather moved north and west to Crieff my family remained in Stirlingshire (Gargunnock to be exact) you may find that is where Christian was from.
Just a thought

So your Christian and my Anna are sisters ;D. Have you managed to find out anymore on on John Leckie or Christian Drummond i.e. their parents. I would really like to know if Christian Drummond's ancestor's are related to Drummond Castle. I have Christian as marrying James Comrie too, but I think it is all gathered from the IGI. I have them with 7 children, again from the IGI.

Hello,
I am just starting to get in to the 1800's in my research and I have found a Comrie relative.
My great-great grandmother was Ann Jemima Comrie born in Blackford Perth about 1839. Ann's father was Donald Comrie born in Comrie, Perth abt 1806. Donald Comrie was married to Janet Comrie (I believe maiden name was McGregor). Janet (McGregor) Comrie was born in Comrie, Perth in abt 1797. Donald and Janet Comrie lived in Muthill Village as per the 1851 census with their daughters Ann and Catherine Comrie (born abt 1837 Blackford Perth). Ann Jemima Comrie married Duncan Ferguson on 1 June 1860 in Muthill. She was listed as a domestic servant at the time of her marriage and he was a painter. Janet (McGregor) Comrie was listed as deceased by this date.
Duncan Ferguson and Ann (Comrie) Ferguson seem to have stayed in Muthill for a couple of years and then moved around. Their children are as follows as far as I could tell from census records. Jessie/Janet born Muthill 1861, Daniel born Muthill 1864, Duncan born Glasgow 1866, Isabella born Grangemouth, Stirlingshire 1869, Elizabeth born Lauristown, Stirlingshire 1871, James born Glasgow 1873 and Peter born Glasgow 1875 (my great grandfather).
If anyone has any further information relating to Ann Jemima Comrie, her parents or any these Comrie relations, I would love to hear from you. Thank you. Jennifer.

Hello,
I am also a descendant of James Comrie and Christian Leckie. My GGGGGrandmother was Christian Comrie b.4 Apr 1775. She married Robert Taylor b.13 Oct 1775, also in Muthill. They had 7 children. Interestingly, Robert Taylor was descended from a Drummond as well. I don't think that was uncommon at the time.
I am curious to know why the name is interchangeable with Conon. Does anyone have any information on this?
