Title: 19th century Birkenhead Marriage Announcments
Post by: celia on Monday 01 June 09 15:21 BST (UK)
Hello
I would like some advice please (to help me decide) from people who had ancestors in Birkenhead wirral in Cheshire. The reason being that after a  visit to a lovely chapel in Liverpool recently, it reminded me of something I had been meaning to do for a couple of years but never got round to it. To cut the story what I started out to do via the any 19th century newspapers didn’t work out. So after a few afternoons and lord knows how many hours which I enjoyed doing I might add. I changed track and have now been through all the Marriage announcements entered in the L, pool mercury every Friday, 1828 up to 1842 of the people that lived in Birkenhead at that time. Not everyone had the money put an announcement in so its pot luck if you find one of yours

For instance
L, Pool mercury for  May 16th 1828 has, this is one of the short ones,

On Saturday last at St Nicholas Church Mr John Henson of Old Hall St. To Miss Orton of Birkenhead.

Question, would it be of any interest to anyone, now I have hand copied and finished these. If I type them out and put them on rootschat, I know people are always asking where did they marry.

Celia

Celia, I for one would be interested in seeing these marriages.  Not that any of mine had any money, but you never know.  I am sure this would be greatly appreciated by so many of us with Birkenhead ancestors.
Thank You once again for your expert help

Looking for James Charles Berry and Lucy Ann Sayer in the 1871 Liverpool census.
Do you mean you want a look up of the 1871 census for these two? If so you will need the census request look-up board
Birkenhead isn't in Liverpool, its in Wirral  Cheshire :)
All the above Marriages are those I have transcribed from the 19th century newspapers. For Birkenhead residence only,
I have transcribed up to 1843 so far (not on the topic yet)If it  is the marriage you are looking for what year approximately then i can advise you further.

Hi Celia,

Do your records go to 1864 ish?

I am looking for the marriage info for Ann Large from Birkenhead to Thomas Bates of Nantwich area.
I have the quarter of the Marriage from BMD records, but not got the cert yeat
Marriages Sep 1864
Bates  - Thomas - Nantwich  8a 408
Large - Ann - Nantwich  8a 408

I think they were both farm servants tho and they married in Nantwich area, so not sure if there would be an announcement in the Papers in Birkenhead.

Ann's Cencus reports give her place of Births as Birkenhead.

Hi

There is no certainty that he married "into the Dutton" family - as per your other post.  It was just a suggestion that it was a possible marriage as the initials were J G on freebmd

www.cheshirebmd.org.uk

Cheshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1928

WALLEY John George DUTTON Annie Claughton, Christ Church Wirral BK11/4/25

Marriages June qtr 1928
John G Walley  Annie Dutton  Birkenhead  8a 1203

You need to post a new request for a marriage lookup  quoting the names - church and location - quarter in which it took place
