Post by: florencen on Wednesday 23 February 05 17:56 GMT (UK)
I would like to know if any group has indexed the burials at Mount Jerome Cemetary.I have relatives from both sides of my family buried there and would love to know more .I am a bit far away, being in australia and the last time I was in Dublin I didn't realise how many of mine were in there .My living relatives are not into digging up the past.
regards

Hello Florencen - I know of no group that has indexed the burials at Mt. Jerome. However what I have done is firstly (1) check the Family History Centre, Mormon Church. (you can do this on your computer) Go to cemeteries of Dublin. Check the year you are interested in. Years are from 1832 to 1900 or somewhere around that area. When you find the year, there will be a film number. Write this down. (2) Go to your nearest Family History Centre & ask to order the film. When the film comes back, they will contact you & you can go through the film until you find your family members. Take a copy. There will be the names, what year they died, a registry number, subdivision number & the registered number of this grave. (3) Write to the Mount Jerome Cemetery at Mt. Jerome, Harold's Cross, Dublin 6 & ask them for a memorial inscription of this grave, giving all particulars. This is free of charge. You may be able to order the death cert. as I found out later after they sent me a map of the cemetery & particulars of each person in that plot. This is the only place to enquire about a death cert. if they are buried in Mt. Jerome. As far as I know they have no email address.  I also have a phone number if you wish to phone them after you have the particulars of the grave site to save time in writing.

Hope this is helpful. If you need any further info just let me know.

thanks Maystan,
I don't mind waiting for a response in writing from them as  the people I am hunting aren't going anywhere in a hurry.
Besides I am a posty and I love letters!
I am currently trying to interest a dublin based cousin into geneology and hope to be able to wear her down with my email whining about her being so close and me being in australia.

Hi Florencen :)
How are you making out concerning Mt. Jerome Cemetery? You're right, these people aren't going anywhere in a hurry. Good one!

I found in Mt. Jerome, 3 members of my family. If you want to order the films, I can give you the numbers to order. They are 0910428 & 0910429 from the Family History Centre. Forgot to look up the dates these films are available.  Will check it out & get back to you.

Happy hunting.
Marilyn

Hi again Florencen,

The years for Mt. Jerome films are from 1836-1972. The two film numbers I gave you, these are for the years 1856-1870.
