In 1841 he's a grocer in Rosemary Lane Whitechapel aged 40. With him are Elizabeth (30) and Charles (4 months) and a female servant Ann Digby.

That might be Essex

G'day Shaun and Pels
Sadly I must concur. It does look like Essex (also Erith).
In 1861 he's from somewhere in Essex.
In 1881 he's from Leadon Essex (Lexden?)
Charles is Charles Henry of HARRODS
Elizabeth is the one I'm trying to back track. I have circumstantial evidence that her name was DIGBY. Now an Ann DIGBY (unk age) shows up as their servant in 1841. Thanks for that.
It seems that she died before 1861 so I may never find her marriage.
Cheers
Anita

Interesting.
There's lots of stuff about Charles Henry on the web and most sources say he was born in Lexden Essex circa 1799/1800.
This one http://www.reasouthend.co.uk/page2.html says he married Elizabeth Digby the daughter of the local butcher.

According to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Charle Henry Harrod married Elizabeth Digby (1810–1860) the daughter of a pork butcher from Birch Essex in 1830. Charles was born at Lexden 16 April 1799, parents William and Thamar.
