I'm trying to find the death of George BENNIE, born 3 May 1865 in Bridgeton Lanark. He was the son of William Bennie and Mary Ann Cook, and was still alive in 1922 and living in James St Glasgow (according to a NZ will.)
I've looked on Scotlandspeople - the most likely one:
1939 BENNIE GEORGE M 74 LINLITHGOW /WEST LOTHIAN 668/00 0051
was not the right one.
Is there SKS going to New Register House who could check for the death of a George Bennie with parents WilliamBennie and Mary Ann Cook please?
Many thanks

Hi Audrey,
Many thanks for your kind offer. :-)
George BENNIE was born 1865 in Bridgeton Glasgow. His parents were William BENNIE and Mary Ann COOK.
He appears in the 1927 Glasgow directory as:
Bennie, Geo (of Wm Bennie and Sons) res Burbank House, off Sheepburn Rd Uddingston.
Regards

Hi sancti,
I don't know if he married - I couldn't find a marriage on SP so I don't think he did. Plus there's a family story of his nephews and nieces inheriting from his estate, but I don't know when. The birth you found is for an earlier George who died in infancy.

Audrey, thanks for your trouble. I hope you enjoy your trip to Edinburgh :-)

I can't see a death for him. I wonder if it may have been mistranscribed as Bennet
Was the father, William a machinery merchant?
Audrey it may be easier to look for a copy of the will and testament
-
Yes, William was a machinery merchant. I couldn't find anything on SP under Bennet, Bennett, Binnie or Benney.
-
I see the family on the 1881 census with George as an apprentice. Have you found him on the 1901 census
-
Yes, in 1901, George was living with his widowed mother, Mary, brother James and sister Agnes Park (and her children Jack and Mary) at "Glenburn" Greentrees Place Cambuslang. George's occupation was engineer and machinery merchant, and he was single.

Hi Jan
Sorry, couldnt find him in Edinburgh today.
checked deaths till 1975, marriages from 1881-1940, also checked Benny, just incase.
The infant death appears to be Georges brother, who died at 16 days, I have a copy of the extract from him and also your George Bennie birth, if you wish either, let me have you email by PM and I can can them over. Also found the family on the 1871, 1881 and 1901 census, if you need this info, also let me know.
