I am looking for the maiden name of my great grandmother Annie E Brearley.
She was born around 1850 in Batley and after her marriage lived in Belvedere Road, Batley.
-
Do you have their marriage certificate? I can only see one possible marriage but it does not tally with the 1881 Census. Their son Fred was born around 1874/75
1881 Census
RG11 / 4545 / 137 / 46
Belvedere Road, Batley
possible marriage
William Henry Brearley / Annie Jowett
March 1879 / Dewsbury
There is no birth on Freebmd for a Jowett around 1850. Will re-check for you.

Your best bet is to get the birth certificate for one of the children. As there are a few Fred's and Walter's born Dewbury, I would get the certificate for the daughter. This will give the mother's maiden name.
Ada Brearley
June 1880 / Dewsbury

Thank you for your replies. No I do not have the marriage certificate, but I will

Hi Charlotte
Thank you for your message. Yes. I will let you know how I get on.

HI
I think I can say for certain that Ada's parents are
William Henry Brearly and Hannah Akeroyd
Whose marriage was registerd in the June quarter of 1873 Dewsbury.
The clue was that in the 1881 census they had a visitor who was a young lady called Clara Akeroyd
then in the 1891 census Annie E is shown as Hannah E
The to double check on the 1871 census both Hannah and Clara are visible.

Thank you very much Wendy on the information about my great grandmother.

Hi there Wendy
I have been checking on the 1891 census and can't seem to find
my great grandparents on there. Any help would be appreciated.
I am new to this. Thanks.

Hullo again,
There's another site - free- that will help you establish if those you seek were alive in 1891... G**gle for freebmd, and check if they had died by 1891 if you can't find them in the census.
maybe the husband had died and his widow remarried? Lots of possibilities and freebmd is a good place to help you get some bearings.

Hi
I couldn't find them at first but then I tried first name only year of birth and the name of parenta and then the area in which I believe them to be living
Anyway you'll find them mistranscibed under the surname of Boardley at the following ref
RG12; Piece: 3719; Folio 77; Page 4
