I am looking for a Charles Fry on the 1891 or 1901 Census who was an Engineer. He had a son called Frederick Fry b. abt 1888. Frederick Fry married Rose Elizabeth Rawlings in Old Ford, London in 1910 of which I have the certificate. Frederick was a Dock Labourer and his father was stated as Charles Fry, occupation Engineer.
Just can't seem to find Charles on the Census returns. I have found Frederick on the 1911 Census. which says he was born in Stepney.
Anyone help?

Birth
Frederick William S Fry
Jan/Feb/Mar 1890
Poplar 1c 705
but not 100% this is the right one.
I didnt see any Fredk Fry born specifically Stepney in 1901. There is one bn Shoreditch (with widowed Mum Eliza) and others around not with father called Charles.

This is the line I followed until I looked at the 1911 Census and there is my Frederick Fry with his wife Rose and baby and there is also Frederick William Smyth Fry so this has led me to believe that I may have researched the wrong line.

Looks like it.
MAybe Frederick made up a father for the marriage cert.
We need to find the right Frederick in 1901 and work back, ignoring the father at the moment.
What else do you know about him. Does he have any middle names on marriage cert? Is he a dock labourer on marriage cert and 1901 census (and child's birth cert if you have them). Is he age consistant? ANy other rellies living with them in 1911? Witnesses at marriage?

My knowledge of London Reg Districts is not good, but there are several Fredrick Fry births around 1888 - (Fulham, Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, Edmonton)
Either one of these is him, or he was reg under a different surname (maybe mums maiden name) and took on the surname Fry later on.

Hi, Frederick and Rose Fry were my grandparents. Their first son, Frederick Henry, b 1910, was my father. I am his son from his second marriage. He died in 1984. He had a brother, Harry, b1914. Any info would be great, as I don't know that much. Pete
