Hello, I have Benjamin Pickard, b1842 in Kippax. His father Thomas b 27/2/1814 and his mother Elizabeth Firth married 21/9/1840. I have Ben's siblings too. As Ben was an MP for NORMANTON, Barnsley and miners' union leader I hope someone has more info for me. I descend from his daughter Cora. Thanks Jen

Hi Jen
Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.
Have you made any progress, or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?
Look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes

http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/TUpickard.htm This is a bit of a bio.
http://www.r-senior.demon.co.uk/ftree/data/registers.html This page has some parish register summaries from Kippax with Pickards on. I didn't check out the home page - that would probably be just this bit: http://www.r-senior.demon.co.uk/ftree
http://www.whatnextjournal.co.uk/Pages/History/Barnsley.html This one is about the bye-election in 1897, and mentions your Benjamin.
I got all these by just doing a Yahoo search on Benjamin Pickard. There will be heaps more references if you want to do a search. Its worth trying just typing in names into a websearch if you have someone who was a bit prominent in their career or politics or something. You'd be surprised what comes up sometimes.
Good luck with all this.

Hello, thanks all of you for your help and interest.
Since I last came on here I have got some interesting snippets from Google (union history, including one of the links above), and from free access to the Times Archive.
I have no census access though so Oly, thanks very much indeed.
Another rootschat kind person found him in the 1871 mistranscribed as Richard, not Pickard.
thanks again, will be back soon when I have time to go through info. xxx
cheers all, Jen

Hi Sorry I have only just joined RootsChat and seen this post. I DO have info on Benjamin's family tree, only mine goes backwards not forwards. My husband is a Pickard although he was born in Lancashire but is a descendant from Benjamin's family. If you are still looking for info I would willingly let you have what I know
