William John Wakefield marrying Christina Lankow, 1858, probably in Nelson.
Christina Wakefield marrying Joseph Busch, 1877 in Nelson.
William Wakefield marrying Amelia Schwass, 1885, in Nelson (ITM indexing stops at 1881, doesn't it??)
I'm hoping to discover whether it was the same William marrying both women (they were all near neighbours) or whether Christina was a widow when she married Joseph.
Thank you for any assistance!

Hvae you looked at electoral rolls in past threads?
just wondering if by the fact 1881 he is a carrier, this may imply it is a younger William than in the 1858 marriage
Electorate Wallace
WAKEFIELD William
Place Of Residence Clifden (Waiau) / Occupation Carrier

Hi taonga1,
I'll look for these ITM's for you.

Thank you so much Riley - let me know if you ever need anything checked in Taranaki!
Althea - I'd looked through electoral roll entries for the 1860s and 70s, but no, I hadn't seen that one! Where did you find that roll? I'd imagine you're right - if the first William John really was born c. 1831, he'd be unlikely to be a carrier in his 50s
I'm finding heaps on Joseph Busch - he turns up in the Magistrates Court on a very regular basis, and not on the side of the good!

1881 Electoral roll on NZSG CD
Electoral number 1132
In 1893 (NZSG EROLL CD) the William at Wallace ED is a ploughman
Number 3484, Voting Qualification Residential
Residential Address Clifden, Occupation Ploughman
No Matching female at Wallace that year, but this is not unusual as many women missed the first roll, hence why the 1896 roll is on its way to be released soon via NZSG

Hi taonga1,
I cannot search for the ITM notice for WAKEFIELD/SCHWASS without a place and date, necessary after 1881.
I was unable to find the ITM notice for WAKEFIELD/LANKOW. The card index provided this reference: BDM 20/3 p.129/47 (but underneath the '129' was '132'). I looked at both pages (which happened to be for Otago, not Nelson) but couldn't see an entry.
I did find your third request though:
Intention to Marry Notice. Archives NZ Ref: BDM 20/22 1877 Nelson p.451/4.
Joseph BUSCH, widower, a farmer aged 36 years, living at Aniseed Valley, Waimea East, length of residence 32 years, intends to marry Christina WAKEFIELD, a widow aged 41 years, living at Waimea East, length of residence 32 years, at the Office of the Registrar of Marriages, Nelson.

Hi Taonga1,
Wondered if you had checked out the passenger list of Skiold - looks like your Lankow and Schwass families?

My apologies if this is 'old news'.....
Good luck,

THANK YOU RILEY! I can't believe the generosity of genealogists, who will spare the time to find things for complete strangers - it's beautiful, and I'm very grateful. What you've found is enough to answer my question - If Christina was a widow at her second marriage then I have almost certainly narrowed down the right dead Wakefield! Also, he cannot possibly be the same Wakefield who married Amelia, although a couple of sources have confused the two.
The thing about the Otago pages intrigues me. I wonder if he arrived in Otago, and Christina travelled down to marry him, then they moved back to Nelson. Her family is definitely from Nelson, and that's where they lived, but I hadn't been able to find him on a ship to Nelson.
Thank you Abby :-) Yes, I'd found them on the Skiold a couple of months ago. My 7 yr old daughter has been putting on a mock German accent lately, quite tickled pink that she's got German blood. Christina's second husband was also on that ship as a 2 yr old. I guess the German settlers stuck together a lot.
