looking for ancestors of my GGGGgrandad William Wadkins
From 1841 census
Living at Beaver Hall Southgate Middlesex
William, b about 1771 in Southgate
Ann, wife b about 1771 in Roydon Essex
Robert, son b 1822 (my GGGrandad)
Wlliam married Ann Hankin 29th March 1812 at Edmonton.
Any help tracing this family further back wolud be appreciated. Can anyone find birth for William or Ann so I can identify their parents.

Hi ZKT
Southgate was part of the parish of Edmonton
http://homepages.gold.ac.uk/genuki/MDX/Edmonton/index.html
parish registers held at the London Metropolitan Archives - no coverage of this period on the IGI. The IGI does not have a good coverage of Essex parish registers. Roydon parish registers if deposited should be at the Essex Record Office.
The 1841 census when the family was living in a cottage next to Beaver Hall in Southgate, usually rounds down adult ages, those over 15 to the nearest 5, so it is probably better to go from the 1851 census South Street Southgate where William gave his age as 63 - birth year circa 1788 (1841 aged 50 birth year circa 1791) and Ann 59 birth year of circa 1792 (1841 aged 50 birth year circa 1791).

hi.i found that the best way to proceed further is to go to the london records office, something i plan on doing,to search parish records for edmonton/southgate .i think any further info will be held in weld chapel records.i am in south cheshire too so assume we are closely related, are you a wadkins?
