Can anybody give me some advice about irish birth certs please. I have recently traced my relatives in Ireland thro the irish fam hist found and payed to view the record which is transcribed rather than original. Is it worth me buying the birth cert (will it give any more info) and if so how do i go about it.
The baptism record i have is for James Flannelly of Ardabrone,Skreen and Dromard on 20/11/1878.
Any advice would be very welcome

Not sure what details are in the church record but the birth certificate will show the following: registration district, date and place of birth, name of child (or male/female if registered without Christian name), name and occupation of father (unless child is illegitimate), name of mother (including maiden name), name and address of informant (one of the parents or a person present at birth), date and place of registration, name of registrar.

Hi Andy,
Church records have much the same info as suggested in previous post. The records should be available from Markievicz House in Sligo (run by the HSE). They do a telephone mail order with c/c. :)

an entry does exist for this birth in the Irish Birth Registers in the General Register Office. Here are the details if you wish to order it:
Name: James Flannelly
Registration district: Dromore West
Record type: BIRTHS
Registration date - quarter and year: Oct - Dec 1878
You can go to the GRO Research Room in Dublin (if you can) and request a photocopy/scan of the record. Or you can go online to http://www.irish-certificates.ie/secure/birth-record-search.html and order it

At 25 Euro that's really too much to pay for a certificate.
You can order direct from GRO for much less-
