Title: I am confused

Can anyone tell me what a Family bible is and how to start one because i don't know I know it is rather stupid sorry if it is a stupid question. I really want to learn how to make one. Thanks very much

You get a bible.  Then on the blank pages at the front, you write in it your name, and the names of your husband, then the names of your children.  Then the names of the grandchildren.  At this time it becomes a 'family bible'.
Then as time goes by, someone else writes other names in it, and it becomes a record of the births, marriages and deaths in the family.

If you're starting a Family Bible, it's a good idea to get as large a Bible as you can afford, with as many blank sheets front &/or back as you can find.

For examples, try G**gle Images for "Family Bibles" ...  you'll see lots of beautiful examples from the past, and possibly there'll be some advertisements for companies who sell them (however I would exercise extreme caution before buying this way!).

Hi Katy,

Not all family "bibles" are Bibles. Any book would do, as long as it was likely to be kept by succeeding generations. Nowadays, with the great numbers of computers around, it's easy to start a family bible which contains nothing but the family information. You can leave it as a computer file or you can print it out and get it bound. But it's that "succeeding generations " bit which is important - they have to WANT to keep it, so a very special mode of presentation works best.

Whatever book you choose, try to choose one that stands out, or keep it in a container that makes it obvious what it is,  otherwise it will be at risk of going into a skip, like ours nearly did.

our cousin has a "Birthday" book, which great-grandma gave to grandad in the 1890s on his ??18th birthday. It's like a diary, with a sectionfor each day.

Since then all the descendants have been written in (though grandad never wrote in his mother, so we don't know when SHE was born!!)
