Looking for some help to check a death.
I have Helen Hill living at 148 Albert Road, Jarrow in 1911 aged 82 .
I have checked Freebmd and can only find a Helen living in Essex with the right age
( died 1918 aged 88 )
If any one has Ancestry Sub, i would be grateful if you could check for her in Jarrow / SS
as i have been told the FreeBMD in not complete.
This could be her, as JenB found her son in Surrey, but didnt expect her to move at this age. her husband died in 1915 in Jarrow.

Hi,
Was she the informant on her husband's death certificate (1915)?
Have you discounted the Helen Hill registration 1912 in S.Shields? The age is not quite right but perhaps the informant was not too sure.

I have checked the death index from 1911- 1929 and the only Helen Hill listed of the right age is the one you found
who died in West Ham in 1918 (2) age 88 4a 233.
The next nearest is the one who died in South Shields age 86 in 1912(3) 10a 755

Hi Nanny Jan
She wasnt the informant on her husbands death cert, the youngest son did this.
I have been discounting the south shields Helen because of the age as i have her in 1911 as 81 with two of the children still living with them aswell.
I am drawn to West Ham one only because i know that the wealthiest son has moved to surrey at some time as he dies there in 1930's, and it may fit that after her husband dies in 1915 she may move down there.
i can see two cert purchases coming to iron this one out.
Many thanks Amber39 for checking the death records. i feel beter knowing i havnt missed anything before buying a cert.
thanks for all your help

You could try contacting South Tyneside Register Office to see if they would check if the South Shields Helen is the wife of *insert husbands name*, this shouldn't cost anything.

Hi,
My concern is that West Ham is north of the Thames and Surrey to the south. It would depend where in Surrey her son was; perhaps she died in a hospital in the West Ham area. :-\

Hi angelfish58,
i will try your suggestion - they have been very helpful before when i have asked for some advice.
hi nannyjan,
it is quite along time between her son dying in 1937 in south london and his mothers death in north london in 1918 ( if it is her). They could have moved around, i dont think i have many of my other ancestors at the same addresses in subsequent cencus' in Jarrow.
will try and rule out or confirm the south shield one.
thanks again

I have been emailling southtyneside registrars about ninian's death, helen husband, and had some very helpful advice from them.
I was given a contact for a cemetery section that has come up trumps with his burial and also has her with him, buried july 1912.
nanny jan your concerns were obviously well founded. ;D
The contact numbers i had are:
0191 4273190 for southtyneside cemetery section
0191 4271717 for local library &
0191 4554661 for the Shields Gazette
all of these were very helpful, hope the numbers may help some one else.

Pleased to hear that you've found Helen.
I've often found ages on death certs to be slightly out; the details are only as good as the knowledge of the informant.

ive been investigating her son and daughter in law, she died in Elswick over the water!
newcastle cc tell me that if i find a grave no they can tell me if their is a memorial stone. have aske southtyneside if they can do the same.
if not i might start a new post and see if any one on the site lives near jarrow cemetary and can take a picture, if one exists.
it is so enjoyable finding out all this info when we have a site like this and all the registrar offices i have contacted, whether in newcastle, sheffield or in my home county are all so helpful and give advice so freely.

Mark,
shirl100 has got the Jarrow Cemetery Memorial Inscriptions, so it might be worth asking her. See http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,377696.msg2517211.html#msg2517211
