Does anyone have any information on the Foord family from Monmouthshire? My earliest ancestor is John Foord 1715-1775 of Chepstow but there exists a Foord will from 1714.
Apparently the family moved from Holland in the 1640's.

Where did you hear that the Foord family came from Holland.

Hi, sorry it's taken so long to reply, I didn't know anyone had responded. Please email me at Moderator Comment: email address removed to prevent spam and other abuses. Please use the secure personal message system to share email addresses and other personal material. Thank You
Anyway, I've seen a letter which suggests that the Foords came from Holland in the 1640's and it's been passed down that they moved to Wales and became shipwrecked on the Welsh Coast after they left due to religious movement. Do you know how to find information about shipwrecks in Southern Wales or utch records that may have passenger lists? I can send you the letter if you like.
Over the past couple of months I've been able to track the family down a fair bit further to circa 1651 to a William Foord of Itton. His father probably would have come from Holland if the story's correct. Please email me if you want information about this. I have many official documents, pedigrees, etc and a gedcom file of a few thousand people.
What's your connection with the Foord family? Do you know if there are many related Foords in Wales today?

Justin,
I would be interested in seeing that letter you refer to or the gedcom if you still have it.
Thanks,

Hi Justin, In the last on line census, there were 1,712 Foords in England Scotland and Wales, but in Wales there were only four, so by now there could possibly quite a few.
Just checked 2013 Electoral rolls in Wales 22, in Britain 1174
Also have you tried Freereg I found five Foords baptisms 1596 to 1720, three in London, two in Sussex, and that was only on a selection of some South Wales counties and London and some southern counties, eight counties in all, you can't search for all counties, also I didn't look at Marriages and Burials.
best wishes Rowley
