Hello,
Can anyone help me please with this lady.
I have a marriage certificate for a Minnie Stroud who married Henry Thomas on 21st Dec 1883 in Plymouth. No name of her father on marriage certificate.
I recieved her birth certificate today which says:-
Born -24th Jan 1864 Sidmouth.
Father - James Stroud. Occupation - Sailer
Mother Mary Ann Stroud, formally Parker.
Signed my M A Stroud, Mother, The Beach, Sidmouth.
Can anyone please help me find them on the census. I cant seem to find any record of them
Thanks
Lisa

Hi
I have been looking for Minnie ...they do seem rather elusive. I have yet to find a marriage between James Stroud and Mary Ann Parker.
I have found a James STROUDE , b 1838 Bovey Tracey , with family in 1861. Not sure if this is Minnie's dad. :-\
will keep looking.
deb
added .... sorry ...have found James b Bovey Tracey in further censuses married to Emma with children :-\

Thanks,
I know they seem impossible to find. When i recieved the marriage cert and saw no father thought great. But i might not even have the right birth certificate for minnie. But it is the only one that fits.
This is Minnie in 1891 census - Plymouth, Devon.
Henry Thomas 35
Minnie Thomas 28 b. 1863 Sidmouth , Devon.
Florence Minnie Thomas 5
Henry J Thomas 3
Bessie Thomas 1
And 1901 census in Plymouth, Devon
Henry Thomas 45
Minnie Thomas 37 1864 Sidmouth Devon
Florence M Thomas 15
Henry J Thomas 12
Bessie Thomas 11
Cora J Thomas 8

In 1883 Minnie's address on marriage cert is 46 Harwell, Street, Plymouth, Devon.
Also witnesses John Francis BuKle and Bessie Butile. Think these two witnesses have same surname but how i have spelt them is how they look on certificate.

LOL
I was just going to ask you for more details from Marr. cert ;D
Minnie is def. a spinster?
still looking
deb

yes she is.
married in parish church. All Saints, Plymouth.
Henry Thomas is a shipworker living at 4 parade, plymouth.
-
ummmm
she's not at that address in 1881 :(
this is crazy ...where is she ??
deb
-
i dont know. Cant even find her on 1871 census.
Thanks for your help. But think this is one of many brick walls in my family tree.
-
It seems strange that Minnie did not put her father's name on the Marr. cert! Did Henry? I'm sure she must have been asked.
just a thought ...what if she was Illegitimate .....but knew who her dad was and took the name Stroud when getting married.
There is a Minnie Parker b 1864 living with her grandparents in 1871. She has been put down as born, Exmouth
1871
Littleham
Giles crt
Thomas Parker head 59 Waterman
Maria wife 58
Eliza dau 21
Minnie gr dau 7
will try to follow up on this.... as I said ...just an idea

Well i thought that, but then when i recieved birth cert. Not sure now.
Yes Henry did put down his father on marriage cert. I cant even find him in 1881 census.
all very confusing. But James and Mary and daughter Minnie must be somewhere as have birth cert for her.

I cannot find the Thomas Family in 1861 :-\ :(
I have even tried to find Henry's sis, mary Ann ...no luck
Can't find a James marrying a Keziah or a Jane either.... it seems in earlier censuses that Rotherhithe was in Surrey.

Thanks for your help.
The THOMAS and STROUD family have been a big problem for me too. I havent been able to find anything either. Thought with the birth cert arriving today that would help. But it hasnt.
Perhaps i need to order Henry's birth cert to see what that says.
THanks

I think ordering Henry's Birth cert may be a great help. at least we could hopefully go back further on your Thomas Line!
Minnie Stroud is hiding ;D
I have looked for a Minnie with parents James and Mary Ann, using no surnames.....cannot see her at all.

I have just found Minnie on the 1921 census with her husband and she has listed herself as Florence Minnie Thomas.
So maybe that 1881 census is correct.
