Hello All,
Can anyone help me on this I have recently visited the grave of a Sir Alexander Ball, Malta's first Governor during the British Rule. The tablet in Latin had at the head a large X with a large P in the middle. Is this a Catholic symbol of some form and can anyone explain its significance. Cheers ???

It's a Christian (not just Catholic) symbol for Christ from the first 2 letters of the name in Greek:

My thanks for that aghadowey you have answered a small problem as it is also on the grave of a Sir Ralph Abercrombie who was killed in Egypt in 1801, but buried here in Malta. :)

Known as Chi [looks like X, sounds like ch in Scottish loch followed by eye] Rho [looks like P, sounds like roe].
