Over the years I have been wondering what happened to the abovenamed who was born in Somerset in the Jun 1840 quarter. A family history simply mentioned that he had gone to Ceylon but recently when I had the opportunity to check on Ancestry.com I saw he was on the Queensland Electoral Rolls roundabout 1915.
I have tried to check the Queensland deaths but no success there and I wondered if anybody could help me find out a little more about him. Given that he would have been about 75, I would have thought he might have died in Queensland but any information about him would be greatly received.

I think deaths are on fiche to 1968 in Qld. There was a link on the resources board for Qld but I can't locate it now. You would need someone to search it for you at Qld Archives or perhaps some family history centres.
I note that he was living at Homebush which is near Mackay in Qld. Perhaps you could contact either to see if he is in their cemetery records.

Hi,
There was a death on the north coast of NSW of a Jim Bluett in in 1919 #4295. Checking the ancestry electoral rolls for Bluett by itself, and there are very few and none seem to be in NSW.
There are no details and age is given as 70 which could be an estimation by who ever gave the inforamtion. But it is perhaps worth getting a transcription of this record to rule it out if nothing else.

Deaths: 1915 - 1964 on microfiche at the Qld State Archives. :)
Hilary I might be going to the Archives next week and I'll check for Charles when I'm there.
Do you happen to know the names of his parents in case there is more than one person by that name?
-
Thanks all.
Charles James Valentine Bluett's parents were Rev Francis Robert Peter Clarke Bluett and Sybilla Margaretta Maria Bluett nee Anstruther.
He had an older brother Francis William Anstruther Bluett born in Jersey Channel Islands. FWA Bluett ended up in Australia. He was the father of Albert Robert Bluett and Edward Campbell Bluett who both have entries in the Australian Dictionary of Biography. I have tried tracking down their descendants with a notable lack of success.
Until finding the electoral roll reference I had no idea where CJV Bluett had gone other than the reference to Ceylon.

Thank you so much Robyn for the information. This is just a little branchlet of my family but I was interested in following it. Frank and Maria sound a bit plain for his parents names but it is them. I did write to somebody on GenesReunited who had a Sybilla Bluett on her tree but she didn't seem at all interested, whereas I'm sure we would in some way be related just because of the names.
I'll check out ordering the certificates next week.
And thank you Ruskie for your offer.

Hi,
It is also worth searching the Australian National Archives site
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/recordsearch/index.aspx
I think several of the Bluett's are mentioned in them and you can order copies of the material for a reasonable charge.

Thank you again for all the help. I've got a bit to be going on with I can see! :)

Interesting reading the entries in Australian Dictionary of Biography.
There are a couple of names on this website that may be of interest
http://www.ryersonindex.org/
Search just using BLUETT.
There is a facility on the website to request lookups and the death notices are emailed to you. All work done by volunteers but they do appreciate a donation or two ;D
Cheers

Some good finds.
Hilary, do you still want that lookup at the Qld State Archives for Charles JV Bluett's death?
:)

Hi Ruskie,
if it isn't too much trouble yes please but it's not really a problem if you can't do it. As i said at the beginning he is just a twiglet but it would be nice to "tidy" him up and put him in his proper place. I do wonder if he might be the Jim Bluett on the north coast of NSW that regross found, if he can't be found to have died in Queensland.
Thanks once again
Hilary

Worth looking for TALYWAIN nr Pontypool. There was a Rev Bluett there in the 1850s. It has a road named Bluetts `Road, a Bluetts Lane and a Bluetts Bridge.
