Hello Jim,
Just interested to know if any of your WATTS married any NORTH's. I have a couple of children, James Watts North b 1836 in Durnwood and Thomas Watts North b 1844 in Woodford. Father is John North but mother is a Mary for James and a Charlotte for Thomas.
I'm trying to find out their mother's maiden name. Is there a connection?
Cheers

Hello Karenn,
No luck I'm afraid.I've got no North/Watts and I checked with someone else who has the Watts surname and no Norths there. I had a look on the 1851 Wiltshire census and see John North c1813 with a load of children, but no wife at home at the time of the census. Another thing to think about, my Gran had Davis in her christian names but I can't find anyone in the family with the name Davis.Someone told me they did that sort of thing, so maybe that's the case with you. I see a John North married a Mary Maggs Feb 1835 in Salisbury. Don't let me put you off Watts it's just my thinking. Anyway good luck.
Regards
Jim.

Hello Jim,
I think perhaps my John did marry Mary Maggs, she seems to be the only one around at the right time. The Watts name is such a mystery when two children fathered by the same man have two different mothers but have the same middle name! They to keep us on are toes!
I have Davis in my line, again married to a North. Born in 1786 in Durnford, Elisabeth Davis was a shopkeeper in Durnford in1851 and was one of six children born to James Davis and Susanna Cable. If any of the names ring bells let me know.
Good Luck with your research.

Karenn ---- since the Watts name appears as a middle name of two sons born of different mothers ---- I would be inclined to wonder if Watts is perhaps the maiden name of John North's mother. Just a thought. ---- Dee

Hi Dee,
Nope, afraid not. John's mother's maiden name was Davis.
There was a local publican named Thomas WATTS and I'm thinking that maybe that was John's favourite watering hole!
Thanks for your interest.

I have a Stephen (aka Stevan) New, born 1797 in Ramsbury, probably to John and Mary New of whom I know no more. Does that fit with any of yours? He married in Basingstoke then moved to Bristol
