I'm trying to find the family of William Godley, born in around 1879, he was living in Preston near Brighton in 1906, I have two aged 23 in the 1901 census both born in Sussex (Sussex birth is only a strong assumption) I know his father was also William. Can't seem to find him in 1881 in Sussex unless someone has more success than me. Rumour is his father had a Army background and he was in Medical Corp. at some point.
Appreciate any help.

Hi Paula,
I have his marriage certificate showing him marrying Marian Prevett on 21/10/1906 at St. Augustines, Preston, Near Brighton, Sussex. His age is 28 and it shows his father as William Godley (deceased).

Hi John
this is probably his birth
Godley, David William

you could order the cert and see if his fathers name matches up and then you would have the mothers name to help with your search.

Hi John
sorry but looking at the image again although William is printed darker than David i think it is more likely that David is the first name.
sorry to confuse things :-[

Hi John, I have been tracing the Godley family as well, not sure if there is any relevance but information I have managed to find is as follows:
William james Godley registered as 40 in the 1901 census married to a Mary A or E ? age 43 in 1901 born in London Paddington they had 3 children William J Godley 18 in 1901, Cecil A Godley 16 and Percy V Godley 10. William also had a brother Albert E Godley 28 in 1901

Hi Carole,
Thanks for the info., it may be him but from the only actual info. I have suggests he was born around 1878 - marriage cert. says age 28 in 1906.
I don't know his actual birth date, I don't know his mothers first or maiden name only that she married several times and was known as Ms Winder. I know his fathers name was William and was deceased by 1906. I do know he was in the Royal Army Medical Corp. and was a stretcher bearer in the Boer War. There is a rumor that his father was a Major in the Army.
I've been trying for years to sort this, I guess the only way of finding actually where he was born (which seems to be the key) is when the census info for 1911 is released.

John
