Title: Silas Washington
Post by: Mike Baldock on Sunday 10 May 09 21:04 BST (UK)
Hi

I was wondering if anyone with access to the Cheshire marriage index could verify an 1815 marriage for a Silas Washington?

I already have a verified Methodist wedding for him in 1820, but he had children from 1816 and I have just seen some evidence he might have been married twice - once in a 'legal' CofE service and later in the Methodist one.

Any other details such as witnesses etc would be very helpful in tracking him or his wife back a bit further...

Hi This Silas is in my tree

I have a marriage 7.8.1815 to Theodosia Whiteley according to the North East Cheshire Marriage Index

Silas's parents William Washington and Dinah Hallworth are my gt gt gt gt grandparents, and I  am descended from Silas's sister Mary , who married Isaac Booth.

William and Mary appear on 1841 and 1851 Censuses and Mary alon on the 1861 Census. Let me know if you need the details

Incidentally William and Mary Washington baptised there children in various different methodist and C of E churches

Bob

p.s. can you let me know the details of the 2nd 1820 marriage please?

Hi Stone

Thanks for the date - are there any more details -  I guess it's in Chaedle?

The 1820 date comes from a website I can't locate at the moment but will post it as soon as I do!

It was in the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel of Bullock Smithy in Cheshire and seems to have been quite an event as one of Theodacia's sisters - Hannah -seems to have undergone adult baptism just before it - possibly to take part?

I'll have a root around and try and find the webiste for you :-)

OK, I can't type the website here because it has a curly line in it and I don't know how to do those, but it it referenced by Junev in my topic called "Whiteley in Mellor" on the Derbyshire section!

Sorry I can't be more direct!

Can you help with the names of all Silas Washingtons children.

My link to Silas is that his daughter Pricilla married Joseph Sykes who is in my wifes tree.

Regards

no sign of Pricilla ??? - but Theodocia is mentioned in post 4 as a wife ??
Isabel Washington baptised 16th october 1816 in Stockport cheshire - Silas /Theodoria ...parents
William Washington bap 12th april 1818 stockport - Silas /Theodocia
Dinah Washington b 9.12.1821 bap 7.4.1822 Bullock Smithy ,chesh - silas /theodicia
Silas Washington bap 5th july 1824 Heaton Norris ,chesh - Silas /Theodicia
Jemima Washington bap 26th june 1829 Marple Bridge ,Derbyshire - Silas /Theodocia  (chesh /derbys border town )............
but this only confuses matters - because Silas having children with Theodocia ( Theodoria in one case).....so did they marry 1815 in a C of E church and marry again in a Methodist church in 1820 ??...it looks that way .... I will see if I can find Priscilla
found this

Well parents William Washington and Dinah Hallworth baptised their children in a strange mixture of CofE and different non conformist churches

If anyone is still following this, I recently discovered that Priscilla is actually Isabella's daughter - not sister!

Good spot. Quite often these children of unmarried mothers masquerade as siblings
