Looking for any information on ancestors or descendents of James Cranston born before 1858 in county Armagh. he was the father of Charles Cranston born c1858. Charles Cranston married Mary Jane Caddle [nee Brownlee] on 26 march 1879.
Thank you Sammy

See that you haven't had any replies yet but perhaps you could clarify the dates. If Charles Cranston was born 1858 (and married in 1879) his father James Cranston had to have been born long before 1858.

Sammy,
A parent search on the IGI for Charles Cranston and Mary Jane gives a daughter, Mary Ann Cranston, born 14 Dec 1879 in Foy, Armagh. Mother's name is given as Mary Jane Brownlee. Oddly there are three other births to a Charles Cranston and a Mary Jane McQuade but dates range from 1871 to 1876 also in Armagh.
Regards

Dear Aghadowey,
In my original posting I did state that James Cranston was born before 1858 and not circa 1858. The only definate date I have is the marriage of his son Charles Cranston in 26 mar 1879. Charles married a widow who was previously married 25 July 1863 and then her age was recorded as full, so she was born circa 1842, if Charles was of similar age ,he too would be born circa 1842, and at a rough estimation his father James Cranston would have been born 1820 or earlier, but this is just my guess work. Again thank you for your interest..............Sammy

Dear Kingkerswell,
Thank you for your response to this posting. I now have 2 children born to Charles Cranston and Mary Jane Brownlee namely the Mary Ann Cranston you mentioned born 14 Dec 1879 and Esther Cranston born 24mar 1883. I now know that Mary Jane Brownlee was previously married to a John Caddle in 1863 and had 4 children by him, but I cannot link in the McQuade name.............Thank you again Sammy

Your original post said "James Cranston born before 1858 in county Armagh" and "Charles Cranston born c1858."

Thats right James was born before 1858 albeit a long time. and at the time of me posting the query I estimated charles being born circa 1858 because of his marriage date, but since then I found that his wife had been previously married and was older than I thought so I had to revise Charles birth to an earlier date, sorry for the confusion.................Sammy
