Tracing my uncles background. He was born in glasgow mat hosp 1931.parents james mclaren of gloucester st/helen tennant of Maburn st, St Rollox glasgow. My uncle adopted out to my grandfather in Peterhead. Does anyone know anything. There is no adoption papers. We want to know what the connection was and why he was given away. Mclaren was a drapery saleman and tennant was a domestic servant. Would dearly like to know. please can anyone throw any light on the subject

hi hazel :)
difficult one to answer as rootschat has a policy of not giving details of living
persons
if the adoption was arranged within the family then proof will be hard to find.
since james mclaren and helen tennant had seperate addresses i suspect
that they were not married
what was your grandfather's name and how was he related to either helen
or james ?

many thanks. I too have come to the conclusion that they were not married.Checked with edinburgh register but could not find proof. My grandfather was charles murray, his wife Isabella . They were in there 40s when they took on Ian. Why! my mother was 19/20 then so again why take on a baby.Infortunately my grandmother died 3 years after the baby came to stay with them.It is bugging me as to what the connection was. Why move a baby from glasgow to peterhead! I dont suppose I will ever find out but I will go on trying somehow!!!
