John Nash married Mary Payne at Chitterne All Saints on 11 Dec 1833. They had a son Daniel Nash who I believe was baptised at Chitterne on 19 Aug 1838. Unfortunately I do not have access to the Chitterne registers. Can SKS help with any further children and/or the 1841/51 Census details? ::)

1841 this family are near CALNE WILTSHIRE. Ref, HO 107,Piece 1168,Folio, 3/22, Page 3.
Ages do not fit very well but cant see another family, and also its an Elizabeth and not Mary.
JOHN NASH 27 Ag Lab
ELIZABETH 37
KITTY 15
DANIEL 6
MARY ANNIE 4
Address, Quarry in Quernerford,
Calne Wiltshire.
Not sure how Kitty fits in here, but Elizabeth is 10 years older than her husband.

Hi Brionne,
Thank you for having a look but I'm pretty sure that this is the wrong family. I believe that John's wife was still alive in 1852 when their last son, John was born. They had: Daniel (1838); Sarah (1842); William (1845) and John (1852). Mary died sometime after 1852 and John remarried a Jane and they had a daughter Ann in 1859.

Hello both ;D
I couldn't find the family with only John Daniel - and i can't see them in 1851 with Sarah and William as well :(
Do you have them in a later census, David ?
-
Hi David,
Welcome to RootsChat.
I have a found Daniel and William recorded in the All Saints registers of Chitterne. Wiliiam's baptism took place on 3 Aug 1845.
A John Nash married Mary Payne 11 Dec 1833 in Chitterne (All Saints). Don't know if this one is yours.
No luck finding them on the census at the moment.

Mum44 - :D thanks for your help with the 1851 Census. Are you able to help with the 1861 Census as well? John may have remarried by then .... The earliest Census entries that I have for the family are the children in 1881 (except for Sarah, who I have no idea what happened to her!)
Little Nell - :) thank you for confirming the baptisms at Chitterne. Given that they were married in 1833 and Daniel wasn't baptised until 1838 it seems to me that they probably had more children. Are you able to check the registers for any other children?
Thanks for all you help - as a new member it is much appreciated! I notice that I appear to have posted in the wrong place - will try harder next time to get it right!!!

Thanks Mum24! ;D
Hmm. Very odd given the consistent spelling. Any idea of what happened to Daniel Nash?
Also, I would be interested in the 1871 Census as well .... not sure that John is still alive then although Jane should be, as should their daughter Ann. ::)
-
Well, I'm not 100% certain of this one :-\
The only likely Daniel Nash I can see says age 27 and born Chippenham, and he is a Private in the Royal Marines on HMS Neptune in Malta Harbour.
This may or may not be him :-\
Back with 1871 shortly :D

I can't see Sarah after 1851, but there are two possible deaths registered in Devizes district, Q3. 1852 and Q1. 1859
Likewise with Mary - John's first wife - two possibles in Devizes Q2. 1857 and Q3. 1857

Just had a thought - is Jane Box about in 1851? I suspect that she may have been married as I can't seem to find a suitable baptism on IGI.
John Nash Q1. 1858 Devizes Vol. 5a Pg. 107
Jane Box on the page
Ecneps Barbara found that one :D She is indexed as James Box ::)
-
First Jane - yes - in 1851, and 1841, 1841 living in Maningford, her parents seem to have been James and Mary :D In 1851 living in Pewsey, born Maningford Bruce :D
Barbara checked that through before we put the name up :D
The IGI is not complete by any means :)
William: I agree the 1881 family seems most likely to fit the bill, especially considering the childrens' names ;)
So here's that family in 1871:
1871
RG10 P. 1493 Fol. 22 Pg. 11
Church Street, Tilshead
NAISH (NB Naish again :-\ )
Wm Head M 25 Groom B. Wilts. Chillerton
Emma Wife M 26 B. Wilts. Easterton
Sarah Dau 4 B. Wilts. Market Lavington
Daniel Son 3 B. ~ ~
Wm Son 1 B. ~ Tilshead
Kate Dau 5 mth. B. ~ ~
Marriage : Emma Mundy Q4. 1865 Devizes Vol. 5a. Pg. 196 William Nash
The children are registered NASH
Sorry about the confusion - it would have helped if they'd stuck to one spelling ;D

Just wanted to post a BIG THANK YOU for all the help on this post. It is much appreciated!
