Hi folks
Does anyone know if Philipsburgh Ave is still the same as it was in 1910?
I'm particularly interested in no. 137, have just discovered my g/grandfather died there.
Now why couldn't he have hung on till the 1911 census :(

There's a current photo of a house for sale on Philipsburgh Avenue
at this link : http://www.rootschat.com/links/0690/
not far from number 137 and probably similar in design

Thanks Taid and Shane
It looks as if the houses would have been quite new in 1910
-
the strange thing is that the 1911 census only shows seven houses on Philipsburgh Avenue..
see : http://www.rootschat.com/links/0691/
edit : I've just spotted that the road is spit across two districts

??? ???
That's odd, it's a long road
-
my mistake - that was just part of the road, the rest is in a different DED (Clontarf West)

Hi
My grandmother was born in 110 Philipsburgh Ave, I was on this lastweek and it would have looked the exact same... no new developments on this street. All houses look like really old houses.
Cheers
-
Thanks Quaxor sorry I didn't have time to answer you last night.
My g/father (No. 137)had died by 1911 and my g/mother had moved back to Scotland
Ambyren1- I'm glad of that...so much new development these days, all the history being lost ;D

My ancestors were John and Anna Eliza ENGLISH, and lived in ?Union Lodge, Philipsburgh Ave from around 1830 - 1879.
Anna.E ENGLISH is listed in Griffiths Valuation as owning various tenements including ?2a, 63,64, 65, 67, 77, 78, 79 and 99 Philipsburgh Ave, Ballybough.
Any info would be greatly appreciated

I am brought up on Philipsburgh Tce. and the houses on the ave. are very victorian and havent changed.
-
Do you know of any publication on the history of the area from the 1830's. John English might have been Wm John English. He was a 'surgeon dentist', although possibly in the army.
Any photos of any of the addresses would be intersting.
Thanks
Julie
