There is a birth registration for a Jack MILLER born 07-08-1915 at Kingscote, Kangaroo Island, South Australia. His mother is recorded as Florence Jessie MILLER and the father is unknown

That's interesting Jenn, being in Townsville. Met someone living there through GenesReunited. Her late father in law was the stepson of one of my gt aunts! She visited the UK last summer.

Jessie's parents were Joseph Miller of  Ramsgate, Kent and Julia Warman of Sandwich, Kent. They didn't emigrate.

I found a copy of a letter from one of my Dad's cousins to my aunt written in the early 1990s. He remembers......

" Jessie emigrated. Dad had a cousin , a very tall woman who was a Communist, who came from Australia to visit at the end of WWII."

Found her on 1901 UK Census but not 1911. That is all I have.

 Maggie.

There is  this death
Florence Jessie Miller single  died aged 21 relative Charles Theodore Miller(F) 11/10/1915 not long after Jack's birth at Kangaroo Island Book  396 page 558.

So  feel  you  could rule  this one out

Hi Maggie,

This is not the correct person Jenn.

Jessie Florence MILLER 25 b Ramsgate appears in the 1911 census for the registration district of Brighton (Sussex) The address lists as an institution. You would need to  purchase the entry for further information.

Cheers Kris  :)

It was only a suggestion  for  that marriage so  Kris's find negates  that one as well

I have found Jessie on the 1911 census, bought some credits. The correct person, working as a chambermaid at the Metropole Hotel on the sea front at Brighton East Sussex. Correct age and place of birth.

The Metropole is still there!

Florence Jessie Miller's birth was Q2 1885 Elham Reg District.

So at some time Jessie must have emigrated, and this very tall Communist lady returned to the UK after WW2.

With the help of posts for Canadian Records have found her sister who emigrated there in 1912.

I have been trying to find what happened to my Grandad's brothers and sisters, part of the search has been done.

Thanks for your help.

Maggie.

Eleven years later finally discovered what happened to Jessie Florence Miller.
She married in London in 1912, emigrated to Australia. I have been in touch with her
 gt granddaughter.
