Title: needsome help on finding Beeston or Beestone
Post by: troods on Monday 21 February 05 05:52 GMT (UK)
Hi all

Have found some info stating my Elizabeth Ashmore was born 1844 in Beestone England. I have googled abit and found that perhaps it should read Beeston, which I found was in Nottinghamshire.

I also looked on FreeBMD and found an entry for my Elizabeth Ashmore born 1844 in Nottinghampshire.

Does anyone have any ideas on this for me. Is there a Beestone or should it be  Beeston.

Hoping someone can help

Many thanks in advance kind regards Troods

Thanks to everyone who replied to my query on Beeston, much appreciated

hi Roseground

I have my gggrandmother born at Beestone in 1844, Elizabeth Ashmore to parents Thomas Ashmore and Kezia Bales. On her marriage certificate it refers to her being born in Beestone, England. From googling I have found that it could have been Beeston instead of Beestone.
I was trying to find a place that I could link her too, maybe a definite birth record etc.
The family came to Australia approx 1850-1860's.

Many thanks
Troods

hi cousin Troods!

Elizabeth Ashmore was my ggg grandmother. Ive been doing the fam tree for a number of years and have alot of info on the Williams in Victoria especially.

Kezia Bales used quite a few names and seemed to have been hiding from someone from her arrival in Victoria around 1855. She married Thomas Barker in 1864 who had fathered three children to Kezia from 1857 to 1862. She used a different name on each birth certificate.

My information says Kezia and Elizabeth came from Beeston but in Norfolk not Nottinghamshire, I got stumped here as there are four Beestons in Norfolk which would make it a good placename to quote if you don't want to be found out! I take all info for Kezia with a grain of salt.

I spent days going through the microfiche at the State Library of Victoria looking at William Williams's, nearly went mad, but found him and a whole heap of relo's. WILLIAM PENWELL WILLIAMS. (So the name Penwell is from his mother Catherine then). He and Elizabeth Annen/Annand/Anning had 11 children

I take it you are from the family of Augustus Philip Williams who moved to WA?
I'm from his eldest sister Elizabeth Emily Williams family.

I'd like to share our information and would enjoy hearing from you

Kind regards
Damo

Hi Damo and Troods

I am a relative as well.  I hope you are still reading this forum as I would love to make contact with you and share family trees.

My ggg grandparents were Edwin Williams and Elizabeth Ashmore who married in Collingwood in 1860.  Funny thing is my whole family are mad Collingwood supporters.
I am related through their son Henry Samuel -> his son Henry Francis -> and my dad Henry Norman.  My maiden name is Williams.

Cheers
Lisa

Hi distant cousins Damo and Troods,
Looks like another Williams decendant has joined the group.
William Penwell Williams was my ggggrandfather and what a tricky character he seems to be.
Have found much info on him like his wives, children etc about him (incl his grave, and son Williams grave right next door) but find no links to him apart from Date of Birth, Date of Marriages, date of death but what appears to be no direct links to him via the children births etc on fiche etc.
My line is William Penwell, Edwin, Henry Samuel, Alice Beatrice, Melva Jean Crocker then myself.
Lisafox who has had contact is also my 3rd cousin of the same line vering of after Henry Samuel.
Please contact, desperate to fill a few gapes, by the way William Penwell appears to have had a daughter between the death of Elizabeth Anning and the marriage to Isabella May, do you guys know anything about that.
Great to speak to other Williams decendants,
Ed Munro

William Penwell Williams Family.

Need some help in finding members of William Penwell Williams Family that he left behind in England prior to 1856?

His father I believe  was either Sampson Williams or William Sampson Williams.
Believe, but not sure as to his mothers name but could have been  Catherine/Katherine.

He must have left behind brothers or sisters, he married Elizabeth Anning in 1930 in Stoke Demerol in Devonshire and brought most of his family with him to Australia.

Hopefully there is an English connection that will read this and be able to help us work through the puzzle.

William Penwell Williams was my GGGGrandfather, most in the family believe that our Williams' were Welsh but to date we cannot get past Devon.
Lets hope there's a Williams out there that sees a connection

Looking forward to hearing from you Williams'

I have just come across this Beeston website

http://www.beeston-notts.co.uk/default.htm

There are some transcriptions from St John the Baptist Church but the photo's are not up yet.

There is a lot of interesting information, it is well worth a look

Thanks for that Steve - have bookmarked it.

It's nice to see David Hallam's work on Beeston finding it's way onto the net at last. I was lucky to be pointed in his direction when I first started researching my Beeston rellies and he really is a fount of knowledge on the subject!

I must admit it is the first i have heard of him.
The web site address was in the back of "A Victorian Lady's Diary 1838 - 1842" written by Elizabeth Nutt Harwood of Beeston, which has just been published.
A very interesting read for people with ancestors in Beeston.
If anybody would like a copy sent to the them let me know, It costs £6.
