Hi. I am trying to progress my family tree if possible, I've found the following 4 children Thomas b1915, Reginald B b1918, Edward K b1921, Dorothy b1923 all born in Hawarden to Reginald Thomas Matthews Sheen and Margaret A Sheen (form Bennett), I've tried the shipping list with no luck and Ancestry has anyone got any suggestions please? I've got the family going back but the 20th century is a problem.

Hi Liz
I am working on my Sheen family tree and would like to complete your strand if possible
I am after
Year of death for Reginald M-S (Edward's father)?
Details of his 4 children listed ie births, marriages, deaths up to present times?
Also I would like to know about Regs brother Harold Joseph M-S and family? my father remembers he was once a Wurlitzer player in Brighton
Reg and Harold were cousins of my grandfather.
Does the family have a photo of Thomas Matthews Sheen b 1865 by any chance?
Hope you can help.
regards
Steve

Hi,
Sorry it took so long to get back to you but i am back with some information but very sketchy.
Dad really had to think about the questions, but did get some details.
We do not have a photo of Thomas Matthews sheen 1865. There does not seem to be much in the way of family photos.
As far as Dad ( Edward) remembers, Harold Joseph did not get married, but he lost touch with him and his father Reginald after his parents split.
Reginald played the Mighty Compton in thePlaza Worthing ( 1937)
Reginald died around 1952-56, not sure if he is buried /cremated in Blacon Cheshire.
Basil ( brother) died in 1984 aged 65 years.
Thomas married Ruby when he was 24 years , Ruby was 18, they had Angela. We did met up with Ruby on Dad's 80th, Ruby similar age, and tried to keep in touch with Angela, but she didn't continue with the contact.
Edward (dad) married my mother Pamela Mary Stone, there are three girls
Christine Mathews-Sheen - no children. (54 yrs)
Elizabeth Mathews-Sheen ( now Herd)- three girls, Anna Louise Evans ( 1985), Paula Marie Evans ( 1989) and Katie Victoria Herd ( 1993) ( I am 51 years)
Jillian Mathews-Sheen.- One Girl- Tammy Meadows ( 2003) ( Jillian 41 years)
Thomas and Ruby as you know.
Basil did not marry.
Dorothy Mathews-Sheen married Cliffe Redfern, Dad couldn't remember the date or the marriage, but came to the conclusion he was at sea at the time as he remembers Tom's marriage.
Dorothy and Cliffe had three sons.
Keith Redfern married Jean no children. ( Keith is 61 years old)
Derek Redfern married Barbara they had one son Derek who is 29 yrs. ( Derek senior is 57 years)
Colin Redfern ( aged 57 years ) not married.
Dorothy died on 1st December 2002.( buried Hawarden)
Hope this little bit of information helps with the family tree . I have tried to build a family tree but have always hit the brick wall as it looks as though the name changed and i was looking for Mathews-sheen, would you mind if you could pass some of the information on as i find it fascinating.
Again apologies for delay, I have your contact number and will give you a ring.
Look forward to hearing from you

Hi Liz
Thanks for the info it was great. What I didn't know was the Mathews with one 't', for many previous generations it had been two any never hyphenated. If you care to give me a ring I can fill you in back to 1797.
I have a few other questions if possible
Who was Basil as I have never found him before and can't see a birth on BMD or Ancestry? Do I take it he was a brother of Reg and Harold?
What did Harold and Basil do for a living? I think I've found a marriage for Harold late in life.
When did Margaret die?
Are Ruby and Cliff Redfern still alive?
Do you know when the Mathews went to 1 't' and became hyphenated? On the 1901 census Reginald only stated Sheen for all members of the family
Do you have contact details for Angela?
Via Ancestry I've found births for twins, Max Kristian Mathews-Sheen (Meadows) and Samuel Lee Mathews-Sheen (Meadows), b 2001 should I be adding these for Jillian?
At present I'm having difficultly with Thomas's (your great grandfather) sister Emily Matthews Sheen who married a Byrne and moved to Northampton
Look forward to hearing from you
Steve :) :)

Hi Steve.
I am Jillian Mathews-Sheen. Sister of Christine and Elizabeth. I am amazed as to how much information you have gained. I think there have been a couple of attempts by the family to try and trace the family's history, but to no avail.
I would love to know more. I believe you have spoken to my sisters already.

Hi Jill
It's great finding out about relatives, In Australia there are about 50 Sheen's related top us, unfortunately one died in July aged 50 who I corresponded with.
My great grandfather and brother (your great grandfather) worked on a farm in Worcestershire and towards the end of the 19th cent decided to become policemen in London, my grandfather and his siblings were all born in London as were yours. They kept in contact and my father met Harold and Reg but guess lost contact after the war.
Am I correct in you having twins in 2001?
If you want to give me a ring your sister/s have the number.
regards
Steve

Hi Steve,
It is nice to know that there are more of us around and a bonus to be able to get in tough with new relatives.
I will give you a call sometime. I will ask my Sisters for the number.
I did have identical twin boys. Born on 4th December 2001. Max Kristian died on 5th December 2001 and Samuel Lee died on the 6th December. Whilst I was carrying them, I/we were diagnosed with Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndone. Identical twins are not hereditary whereas fraternal twins are. I hope I am correct in saying that my Dad's sister, Dorothy was a twin of which the other twin died at birth. They were not identical though and I don't know what the sex of the other baby was. Christine could probably enlighten you if need be although it is probably irrelevant.
I now have Tammy Christine born 31st December 2002.
Look forward to speaking to you soon.
Regards
Jill

As the friend who spotted the connection I'm glad that it's been fruitful!
Jill, you look just like I remember your mother. She was kind enough to give me your pram when my eldest daughter came along when you were about 5 or 6, and as I was young and skint at the time I was extremely grateful.
Best wishes

Hi Jill
Happy New Year
I have been researching the Sheen's in the Worcester newspapers which are now online, and can be accessed by library subscription. I spotted Joseph Matthews Sheen keeping the Green Dragon Inn in Malvern for many years, he was insolvent in 1858 and bankrupt 1863, eventually being sent to prison for a short time. There is one in every family
I forgot to mention the family resemblance from your photo eyes very similar to my father

Hi Steve, how is the research going. I have only just read your reply as I couldn't gain access to my account. Do you have any photos of yourself and father, I am intrigued to see if there is a resemblance. Fancy one of our family members being imprisoned, made me laugh. I quite agree that there is one in every family. Hope to hear back from you.

Hi Jill.
Thanks for the posting, I've not done much on the family tree for some time, I have brought most branches that I can up to date, Just missing a female who lived in Northampton who I can't find a marriage/death for. I got back to the 1790s, but found 3 Richard Sheen's all born around the right time living close together one of which belongs to us,
I email a Rev Sheen in Australia a couple of times a year, there is a branch of around 30 out in Queeensland.
I've been away for a few days visiting my parents (father is 88) so will sort out some photos, would prefer to send via email if possible.
regards

Hi Steve, good to hear back from you. Hope you enjoyed your trip. My dad is 91 now. The family seem to live to ripe old ages. My email address is * and I would love to see some photos if you don't mind sharing them. I'm sure I will be able to find photos of my family to send to you.

Daft question: is your surname Sheen?
