Title: Photo of soldier in need of identification
Post by: TBriggs on Sunday 03 May 09 22:00 BST (UK)
Hello.

Can anyone shed any light on the attached photo. I am trying to establish which part of the services/regiment my gr.grandfather served in.
The photograph is of John Toyne born Birmingham 1888. He was still living in Birmingham, Warwickshire at the time of the 1911 census.

Any information would be greatfully received.

Tina :-)

This is a WW2 pic!!! ;D

He is wearing a 1937 ptn battledress

From around 1944...he appears to have his Africa Star ribbon on and possibly another...

No tribal distinctions to ID the Regt or unit at all I'm afraid...But DEFFO not WW1!

Sorry Tina..This is not who you think it is! :-[

Thank you Scrimnet. I'm amazed that you can tell so much from the photo.

This has thrown me completely as I was always told this was John Toyne my gr.grandfather!!
There is something to the saying "Ignorance is bliss"  :-\
Yet another challenge for the family tree.

Thanks again...

Sorry Tina...I can only give very bare bones....If there were some other badges, I could give sooo much more for you...

BTW this chap is a corporal...I should have mentioned this previously... ::)

Could it be your grandfather?? Born somewhere between 1910 - 1924??
