Title: I need help to find a marriage certificate
Post by: tracyh on Friday 01 May 09 18:58 BST (UK)
Hi I am desperate for someone to lookup a marriage for me in Glasgow. The marriage was of my grandparents John Fleming and Margaret Rodgers 1st June 1934 Calton Glasgow. I got this amount of information from their first borns birt certificate but would like to know their offical place of marriage/parents and witnesses that would be contained on the document. I am unable to travel to Glasgow myself and I am not sure if I could send for a copy with just this amount of info.
Can anyone please help either by looking it up or details if it can be obtained direct by post/online etc
Thanks in advance for any replies
Tracy

Tracy,
this is no help to you I'm afraid - I just went to look up on Scotland's People for you then realised the marriage lists go up to 1933 only, so no result.
That leaves me wondering how you get marriage details from 1934 on..
Sorry I couldn't help, but at least you know not to spend money on Scotland's People to find it!

Hi,

There is a telephone ordering service, why not try that.

If you live in Scotland you can go to most local registry office and for 1 hour (£10)do look ups which are fairly recent for the whole of Scotland.  They look up what you want and let you view it and take notes.  You can't get copies of recent certificates.  You have to book it in advance.  I got loads of information as I went with notes on who I needed and was amazed at how much I managed to get in an hour.  If you are out of Scotland maybe someone who is through in Edinburgh may be kind enough to look it up for you.
Good luck

Hi Kilsyth If I haven't left it too long to reply ,that would just be fantastic, we lost our internet connection for a couple of days ( all the kids were frantic!) but not to worry if you have already been, I will just have to try another way, thanks Tracy

Hi Tracey

I have a copy of the marriage entry for you, PM me and I can email a scanned copy.  If you also want the original, let have your address and I will pop it in the post.

Audrey

p.s.  the witness was a Muir, my family name but no connection!
