Title: 1881 Census
Post by: RosemaryD on Tuesday 28 April 09 18:50 BST (UK)
Hi,  I was wondering if anyone could look up the 1881 Census records for the Tenbury area in Herefordshire please?  I have an ancestor who died in Tenbury Union Workhouse in April 1890 and would like to know where he was living in 1881 if possible.  He was a Thomas DIDLICK b. 1801 at Cainham, Shropshire.  By 1881 he was a widow.  Does anyone have any info on the workhouse or know where I could find out when he became an inmate please?

Thank you.
Rose Didlick

Hi Rose

1881
RG11/2906//23
I think this might well be him
Brimfield
Address - Cottage
Thomas Didlick, head, widower, 74, Ag Lab - Hereford Brimfield
(This given as his place of birth in 1861 census - actually where he was living in 1871 and place of birth of his wife Ann)

1871 census has
RG10/3039/55/10
Brimfield Herefordshire
Address - 45 Brimfield ??? (can't read this word)
Diblick
Thomas, 67, labourer, Salop, Caynham
Ann, wife, 78, Herefordshire, Brimfield
Samuel, Grandson, 23, Labourer Herefordshire, Brimfield

Do you have his other census entries - if not I can post those for you as well.

Regards

Nell

Hi again Nell, any chance you could have a look at the 1841 Census please?  This time I'm looking for Ann(e) Didlick b. 1793 and her daughter Sarah b. 1827.  There is a rumour that she was in service at Powis Castle?  They were both born in Brimfield, Herefordshire.  Hope you don't mind me asking again.   ;)

;D Helen you're a star!  Thanks so much for that.  Looks like it isn't THE Powis Castle then but brilliant you've found it in Brimfield, that matches up.  REally appreciate your help.

Thank you, Rose  ;D ;D ;D

Hi Rose

Here's a link for information on Tenbury Workhouse http://www.workhouses.org.uk/index.html?Tenbury/Tenbury.shtml

Doesn't look as if the discharge books have survived, what has is held by Worcestershire Record Office.

Thank you Susan,  I have written to the record office so I'm hoping they will be able to come up with something for me.  ;)

Cheers, Rose

Hello again Helen,  sorry to harp on about these census details but is there any chance onthe 1871 that it says 45 Brimfield VILLAGE?? :-\

Thank you, Rose

Hi Rose
Once again, no problem.

It is definitely not village (no tall 'spikes' to the middle of the word that would indicate the double L). It looks more like common, especially when you then look at the 1861 entry where the address is very clear.

1861 census has:
Herefordshire, Brimfield
RG9/2083/46/4
13, Brimfield Common
Didlick:
Thomas, head, mar, 58, Ag Lab
Ann, wife, mar, 68,
Sarah, dau, Unm, 34
Ann, dau, unm, 27
William, grandson, 11,
Marenson(?), grandau, 9
Harriet, grandau, 6 months, Herefordshire, Eye
All others born Herefordshire Brimfield

(I have just noticed my spelling error on the 1871 census transcription :) whoops!)

Regards

Nell
