I'm trying to find a marriage for John Watson and Mary, who ran the Buck Inn in Guisborough between about 1830 and 1850. These were the OH's 2xgt grandparents.
Info so far:
John Watson (probably) born Barnard Castle to John Watson & Mary Ingram. Listed in directories at the Buck Inn between 1832 and 1841. Possible death in 1840 at Guisborough (although he is still in the 1841 directory)
Mary Watson maiden surname unknown, born Darlington c. 1788 (from 1851 and 1861 census) At the Buck Inn on 1841 and 1851 census (son Henry has taken it over in 1861). Four Mary Watsons die in Guisborough between 1862 and 1864, presumably my Mary is one of them .
IGI lists 15 Watson children with parents John and Mary born Guisborough between 1813 and 1833 ::) of whom five appear on the census with my John and Mary:
Mary b. 1815
Jane b. 1818 (m. William Hodgson)
Henry Jeoffrey b. 1820 (takes over running the Buck Inn)
Ann b. 1824 (m. Benjamin Taylor, the OH's Gt-grandfather)
Thomas Ingram Watson b. 1829, (m. Sarah Waterhouse)
I'm currently ploughing through all the offspring to see if a possible maiden name for Mary Watson turns up as a middle name, but haven't found anything yet. They had a lot of grandchildren!
The Joiner Index has loads of John Watson/Mary marriages, but none for Guisborough, Barnard Castle or Darlington :'(
If anyone has bumped into this family on their genealogical travels, I'd love to hear from you

Hi. I realise this is a very old post now but my great great grandmother Elizabeth Starling is listed on the 1881 census as a kitchenmaid at the Buck Inn in Guisborough. At the time, the Buck was run by Henry Watson and wife Esther. Elizabeth married my great great grandfather Thomas Henry Grainge in 1884 and they lived in Stokesley. Have you come across Elizabeth in your research? I know it's a long shot but always worth asking.

Elizabeth names her father as William Starling, ironstone miner on her marriage. Have you looked at
William Starling born 1830 in Gisborough/Guisborough/ Yorkshire in the 1871/81/91 Census entries.
There is a Mary Pennock/Pennack who seems to be mother to most of his children.
Birth
Elizabeth Pennock
1863 Guisbrough

Thanks, yes I have found William on the census records. My great great grandmother Elizabeth was sometimes known as both Pennock and Starling. I'm currently trying to unravel it all as William had another wife who died quite young.
