hello could someone please help me find any infomation on my great grand mother britannia schooling born 1881 west ham, essex greater london.I would like to know who her parents were or any other information regarding her..thank you
-
Here is her birth ref:
Dec 1881, W.Ham 4a/105
If you send for her birth certificate, it will have parent's details.
I can't see her on any census at the moment, though there are Schoolings in the right area. When did she marry?

hello,this is just a guess.turn of the 1900,s to a ernest bristow.Hope this helps
-
cant see her in 1891, tho there is a Brittania Lawrence in the area, but not 1891.
maybe this is her ?
Marriages Sep 1899
Schoolig Britannia Dartford v2a p1123

added: OK, seems to confirm your knowledge.

Hi
Someone on Anc*stry (Unsourced) has her parents down as William Schooling and Rose Hedges, but I couldnt find her with them ??? ???
ricky
-
theres an Olive Schooling with those parents in the Dartford area 1901 ..
RG13/707; Folio: 35; Page: 23 - Wilmington
oh, wait - shes too young - born c1886, West Ham
whoops, she's already married tho ! :-[

I am wondering if the daughter, Rose, with William and Rose in 1891 could be the right person. She is the correct age and she might have been known within the family as Rose. I can't see a birth record for a Rose Schooling at the right sort of time so I am just having a little surmise here!
-
Thanks for all your replies, this gets so confusing, you see britannia is my grandfathers mother, hes father was ernest bristow....but the schoolings were also my grandmothers maiden name and family??!!!
-
seems to be a real Rose around too - and the Registration District fits the 1891 PoB !
Births Sep 1883
Schooling Rose Romford v4a p253
found her - born Becontree Heath - Romford.
so looks like genjen is onto something :)

Ernest Charles Bristow is in Malling in 1911 so it might be worth buying credits to check who his wife is - or if there is a wife.
There are masses of Bristow births, in Malling on FreeBMD with Schooling as mother's maiden name, including another Britannia.
But I can't see them in 1901. ???
-
thank you, so much.maybe i will be able to link it together now

hello rose the daughter is my great grand mother on my grans side, just trying to find the missing link to this mystery.my gran was a schooling, but then again my grandads mum was britannia bristow...maiden name schooling???!!!!
-
1911 - this female is in the Ernest Charles Bristow Household in the Malling District
BRISTOW BRITAMIA 1883
also a son c1901 Ernest William
-
Well done LKL but where on earth are they in 1901?
Jen
-
Thats brilliant thanks...believe the bristows met the schoolings at wilmington/dartford area in kent
-
Just to go over things:
1891 has no Britannia Schooling but three girls named Rose Schooling. Two were born c1880 and one c1894.
The one c1894 is probably the one LKL found and now crossed out.
Of the two born c1880, one is with the parents Ricky suggested and this is the one I think could actually be your Britannia.
I believe that unfortunately the only way forward on this is to start doling out the cash and to send for Britannia's birth certificate ( ref above).
Will you let us know if you do that and what the results are. I will carry on looking for Britannia in 1891 and 1901 but she is being very elusive.

thanks genjen...yes i will order the certificate...thank you all for your kind help

yes, and looking at 1912 (first year Index shows MMN) to 1939, there must be multiple male Bristows married to female Schoolings having kids in the Malling District !
as to where they were in 1901 ..... a mystery indeed like my own Grandad !
PS. the Romford / Becontree Heath Rose was c1883/4

Hi Moley (we meet again :) )
noticed that you have mentioned a Schooling on both sides of the family, and in fact a Rose - can you lay out the generations and names in a bit more detail please ?
-
Out of interest, if you saw the William and Rose in 1891 / 1901 - daughters seem to swap names around etc, and some birth records seemed to be missing ...
This explains some of it. The older girls in 1891 were his step dau's - as seen here in 1881 (same chap, correct PoB etc)
1881 - RG11/1714; Folio: 87; Page: 12 - West Ham (Plaistow ?)
Cherry Island, Tent P.
William Scholing [sic] 28 Head Dock Labourer born Essex, Raine [sic]
Rose Hedges 26 Housekeeper Essex, Ongar
Selina Hedges 3 Visitor Essex, Plaistow
Rose Hedges 1 do Romford
still cant find the Olive shown in 1901 tho (born c1886 - has an Index entry too !)
-
sorry, the above seems to show that Rose was an individual in her own right - leaving the mystery about Britannia still open :(
-
It does that!
Ok so maybe William and Rose are not Britannia's family, or, if they are, maybe she was with another household in 1891.
I can't see a marriage record for William Schooling and Rose Hedges either - can anyone else?
Jen

Thank you so much.....Its still a mystery then!!!.maybe theres lots of red herrings.Im thinking britannia could be william schoolings sister, its just a guess though, williams son james is my greatmothers father.britannia is my grandads mother.yes there were inter family marriages it seems...complecated is the word.

Its all depending on her Birth Cert now.
The find Ricky made - supported by my 1881 find - has somewhat focused the thread on this William and Rose couple - helped by the fact that they were in the Dartford area in 1901 .....
but when you consider that Brittania is never seen with them, they could be totally the wrong people.
altho, the whereabouts of Olive in 1891 still niggles - were 2 daughters of Wm Spooner with relations 'on the road' in that year ? William's own ancestry is more straightforward back to Rayne / Raines and with his own grandparents in earlier census. Rose Hedges is not; not a sign of her, and the enumeration in the gypsy camp in 1881 makes me wonder if her family were 'travelling folk' ....
Anyway, enough conjecture, the Cert will reveal its facts :)
-
thanks LKL i will let you know when the certificate gets here..i think you may be right and there were travelling folk way back..thank you and genjen for all your time.
-
