Can anyone tell me who holds the Roman Catholic records for the churches & chapels in Gainsborough & Market Rason please ?
My Ancestors were Catholic , well one Thomas Fury married at the Roman Catholic chapel in Gainsborough so I'm presuming one of he was or his wife to be was.

Hi
I cannot guarantee it, but I was always led to believe that all RC church records are held at the individual churches.

I'm not sure but I don't think the chapel exsists anymore in Gainsborough.
would the bmds still be among the records on ancestry.co.uk or were Catholic records seperate ? as I have not been able to find many of my Fury family .
Just as a matter of extreme nosey-ness do you have Rooney relations in Manor hamilton near sligo ireland as we stayed there a couple of years ago & the property was owned by a mrs Rooney .

To be honest I don't really know much about the hieracy within the RC church so cannot even begin to contemplate where the records may have been moved to, if the chapel has since closed.
My Rooney research cannot go any further back than 1854-56 when they arrived in Egremont, Cumberland from somewhere in Ireland. Where oh where is my biggest headache at the moment with the way that Irish records are stored.

I have had the same problem , I'm back to 1851 census when my Fury family suddenly appeared in Gainsborough , they had a child born in 1847 in Gainsborough the rest of them change there minds regularly after that in each census.
I did pay for a search to be carried out in Sligo at the records office but they failed to find any of my Fury's so I'm presuming they may have been from the neighboring county Mayo as I know the border changed at some point , but I have many possibilities of them being in Manchester Liverpool even Scotland but nothing solid , it's so difficult because the name changes I have fory , furey , feerey a nightmare I even visited the records office in Sligo but was so taken with the place I didn't want to waste my time wading through books when I wanted to be out & about looking at the beautiful countryside , it's very frustrating & expensive , I can see how you would have the same problem , I presume youv'e been on the shipslist , I couldn't find them on there either , I'm starting to think they are a figment of my imagination and in fact we are from apes , think I'll look on whipsnade zoo register it's probably the only one I haven't looked in Yet !

There appears still to be a Catholic Church in Gainsborough http://www.localauthoritypublishing.co.uk/councils/gainsborough/churches.html
I assume the records from an earlier chapel would have been "passed on".
