Hi.. could anyone recommend a free family tree maker..
before I become buried... by bits of scribbled information..
I've looked on Google... and there seems to be as few possibilities.. but I thought I'd ask here first... to see if anyone can suggest anything..
I was actually thinking of writing on a large tablecloth... as what starts as a very small tree soon seems to get very big.. particularly as I start to reach past my great grandparents.
Any thoughts would be very much appreciated..
Ps.. its not that I object to paying.. and expect everything for free.. its just that I have no access to plastic ,(and so online payment even of a small amount ,) at this time..
( which was why I thought of the table cloth.. or maybe a sheet would do..!
... I've even been eyeing up the kitchen walls!!!)

Free software here, the PAF
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp
and plenty more free on the internet.
Handy tip is to keep your tree and all photos, censuses, certificate scans etc on your computer and upload the gedcom (list of names) to any sites you may want to use.
Once you have entered it in one, the gedcom should be able to be exported from, and and imported into, any of them.
Another free site

have a look here

Thanks Silvery... I'll have look at those...
I live abroad and at the moment pick my mums brain over the phone.. and go searching on the internet.. so anything found online is already on the computer..
I'd describe myself as more imaginative than organized.. so this is quite a challenge for me..
Thanks again..
I'm being dragged off to the kitchen to feed the flock now but will have a peep later...

Hi Danchaslyn... ;D ;D ;D
I'm still tempted with the tablecloth.. I thought i could even hang it on my wall... like the tapestries of olden days.. so that may still happen..
But I have..
( due to the kindess of a friend... who took pity on me and downloaded it too just so she could walk me through it!!!)
..... actually got the tree started.. so thats something..
I thought it was going to sit there like a white elephant on the desk top.. for ever and ever with me being too scared to do more than peep.
So am feeling quite happified at the moment..

You could still do the tablecloth project. After you've entered all the names in the PAF and printed out some trees, to see where everyone fits in. Then you could put them on the tablecloth. And if you were terribly ambitious, embroider them ;D
But it might be easier to just have a look at this printers
http://www.genealogyprinters.com/
They're nothing to do with me, I hasten to add. But recommendations are very high, and they are very experienced and very reasonable. You can even get blank sheets from them. :D
ps I print out the trees (or did do) to make notes all over them while I'm searching and finding censuses, and tracking people down.

Goes to look at link and comes back..
Thanks Silvery....
Oh yes...they're very nice arent they... definately something to think about for later..
I dont think I could do the embroidery.. but I could probably draw something.. though its probably not worth the effort as theres so many good ready made things...arent there.
