Hello,
I am trying to trace any information on Henry Collingwood and his daughter Elizabeth. What I do know is:
1. Elizabeth (b abt 1685) married Prideaux Selby (b abt 1695) abt 1720
2. Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry Collingwood of Westerheugh Esq
I need to know Henry's wife's details as well as Henry's parents and grandparents. Also, if Elizabeth had any siblings?
I would really appreciate any info ...
Man thanks

Hi Lyndsey,
I don't suppose you know which Westerheugh - there are two. One near Stamfordham and one further north near Brinkburn.
There is a submitted entry on IGI (not the most reliable source!) which shows Elizabeth's marriage taking place in Alnwick. This could indicate the northern Westerheugh.
Was your Henry one of THE Collingwoods? The fact that he's a gentleman might make it worth researching that family.

Hi Christine,
I'm not sure which Westerheugh but they are definitely from Alnwick area so I would guess that makes them northern.
Family legend has it we are related to Admiral Collingwood and this is what I'm researching at the moment. I have actually put together the Admiral's rather extensive tree and this Henry is my weakest link hence why I am looking for info on him...I have linked Prideaux Selby to our family so this would really help prove or disprove the legend!! :)

Lesley,
You want Henry Collingwood of Lilburn. I've been looking for information about Elizabeth Collingwood also. My husband is a descendant of Prideaux Selby of Brinkburn and Beal and Elizabeth Collingwood. This website might be useful:

Please share any information at this address. Thanks.

Lindsey,
Obviously I wrote down the wrong place. It's Brinkburn. -- Carol

If this is any use; The Victoria County History Vol VII has a few extracts from the Felton parish records including the following.
1721/2 Feb 25 Mr H Collingwood's daughter married at Brenchburn per Curate Rothbury per license.
There are also.
1699/1700 Jan 2 Mr William Selby of Lowlinn and Mrs Elizabeth Collingwood of the Middleheugh married.
1702 Mr Prudix Selby of Beal and Mrs Elizabeth Selby of Middleheugh married.
1747 Sept 3 Elizabeth wife of Mr Henry Collingwood of Westerheugh buried at Brinkburn after 70 years of marriage.
1779 Henry Collingwood of Westerheugh aged 103 buried.
The VCH says Henry Collingwood was of the family of Branxton and Cornhill.
There seem to have been a lot of Prideux Selbys distinguished by second names.
Hope this is of use, Peter
