Hi
I have the death of Henry Young 1976 who resided at 47 Scoonie Road Leven, informant GM Grant of Braemar Largo Road Leven. Henry retired coal miner. Could someone please tell me where to go for a possible will, what newspaper would possibly print an obituary for that area, where to find cemetery records (he died in Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy) , coal miners records c 1930, any info on the 2 streets mentioned, or on Mr/Ms Grant. No children and a very estranged wife living from at least 1938 till her death in 1978, in Somerset. Big mystery here and anything would help move the story on!
many thanks

A lot of questions to be answered!
ScotlandsPeople only release Wills up to 1901 so the chances are, if he died in Kirkcaldy and lived in Leven, it is registered with the Sheriff Court in Cupar, Fife.
There is a possibility his body would have been cremated and that would have been at Kirkcaldy Crematorium. If his remains were interred at a Cemetery it would possibly be in the Leven area (Scoonie), then Fife Council Bereavement Services would be able to give you details.
Obituary ??? not sure if there would be one. Perhaps a local paper carried a Death notice but it wouldn't tell you much about him.
For mining information, you could try here ...http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/mmartin/fifepits/
For street information the Fife Council Archives may be able to help.
You'll be able to find the Fife Council Services on-line.
Not a vast amount of help, but your starer for 10
I'll keep watch on your success and 'chip in' with any other help I can offer.

Thank you for your help Chiad! It's taken me 3 years to even find his death; he met and married my aunt in 1921 when he was still in the army. I can't find a medal card that is indisputably his, and he will have left the army after 1921/22, so no joy there. My aunt disappeared for about 12 years, as far as we can tell, suddenly and to the great shock of her brother, turning up in Bristol in 1938. It was rumoured that Henry Young had died in a mining accident, and my mother was told my aunt had stabbed him! Now I have his death certificate which mentions my aunt as his spouse, that he was still married, which implies he must have known he was not a widower, and so on. Not going to be easy to get to the bottom of it, so any help, of any kind is very gratefully received and I will certainly post again!

hello judith im eva ,was reading your message on rootschat the fife family history society has lots on the pits in fife had a look but no accident on a henry young for that year ,anyway you might have a chance of his obituary in the EAST FIFE MAIL which is a local newspaper for leven, 7 mitchell street leven fife ky8 4hj,fax 01333 421195,or phone,01333 423201,now the informant could that have been a solicitor gm grant ,as there is a smith & grant solicitors in leven ,,that adress you gave braemar scoonie road leven that is on the largo road and was in the news back in 2000 i think,re a lawyer and sexually abusing boys now he was julian danskin and he lived at braemar so i think that was the same house he could have possibly bought it from gm grant as julian danskin worked for same firm and that same lawyers firm are still there now ,and im sure after julian got released from prison moved back into his house which he shared with his mother at that time,

Hi Eva,
thanks a million for your reply, the info you have so kindly given me will come in very handy and I shall be writing to the solicitors and see what they can tell me. Do you happen to know Scoonie Road? What sort of houses they are, bungalows, private or whatever, it all gives me a picture of a man I know little about.

I can't thank you enough for all your information, it is very kind of you to help, even more so as you are so close to Leven. I have emailed the cemetery office so maybe will get some more to go on by Monday. I am trying to discover if he is buried on his own. I don't know if he has a stone, but would be so grateful for some pics if he does. I will also phone the newspaper on Monday and see what records they might have. If there is, as family rumour has it, a big scandal, then it all would have happened in the late 1920's-1930's so it is a long time ago, and certainly no one will remember it. It is all very odd, the fact that they never divorced! I'm down in Trowbridge Wilts, where my auntie was born, so a bit difficult to do any research, other than what is online!

Hi there, dont know if your still looking for the possible burial place of Henry. I have checked the MIs for Scoonie Cemetery and he does not have a stone there.
