Title: Miles Family Tree in Pembrokeshire?
Post by: sanmiles84 on Friday 17 April 09 10:43 BST (UK)
I am very interested to hear from anyone who is working on, or has worked on a "Miles" family tree in the county of Pembrokeshire. I would definately love to hear from you if your Miles family tree members come from or around Llanwnda , haverfordwest. (Even if you have seen a family tree that has been published or uploaded onto the web that contains Miles from Pembrokeshire).

I am looking to put alot of Miles names that I have floating around on parish records etc into the right pieces of the Miles family tree puzzle. I am also looking for any additional information on the Miles families from Pembokeshire...

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Sandra

Hi Sandra,
I too am researching the `Miles' family from Pembrokeshire.
I don`t know if our lines cross or not. My family are from in and around Mathry. Thomas Miles married Mary Young 1838. I don`t know where Thomas or Mary are from, as different places are on the census, but they married in Brawdy. they had several children:- John b. 1839. Phebe b. 1841. Lettice b. 1844. Levi b. 1846.  William b. 1851.  Hendry/Henry b.1854. James b. 1856. Does this sound like your family, if so perhaps you would like to get in touch.

Take care
Sandra

I was researching at the Record Office today and noted references to what appears to be at a quick glance at least 2 18th century generations of the Miles Family at Rudbaxton and Ambleston.
If you are stuck these parishes could well be worth a look. Just a thought.

Many thanks for the info Orielbenfo,
do you know if there are any records online or have we got to travel to Wales for these. I go to Wales at least once a year usually, but today we are off to Co. Cork, for the other side of the family tree. Any info you come across would be very welcome, as I am in sunny Devon, it makes life a tad more difficult to get to the records office.
thanks again
Take care
Sandra

Hi,
I have no definate idea of where my husband's family originate from, it could well be Castlebythe, but I have found no proof as yet. I do not know of any Evans in the family,(at least not on the Miles side), but it could well be, as there are no other Miles' at Mathry before approx 1830 ish. Oriel benfro has been very helpful with info, but I have no proof as yet.
many thanks for your info, it is greatly appreciated.

I'm researching the family of John Miles, born 27 June 1824 in Llanwnda.   He married Anne Higgon 3 March 1850.   Any information on this family greatly appreciated.

I presume John is a younger sibling to Ann Miles baptised 15 Nov 1814 to John & Ashsha Miles of Llanwnda, other members lightly to be Benjamin of 1813 Levi of 1818 Margaret of 1823 and Martha of 1821.
The problem is that there is no mention of a mrge of John Miles to an Ashsha (Surname Unknown) in the area of Nth Pembs, pre 1814, so the lightlyhood is that he is an incomer.

That's the family Owen, Achsah David was baptised 10 Aug 1783 in Llanwnda.   I have traced her marriage to John Miles to 20 Jul 1802 in Llawhaden.    I have not been able to go further back however but am ever hopeful.

I found it. Probably brother to James Miles who married Hannah Thomas at Llawhaden in 1804. I will keep an eye for anything further, however since there are no Miles Family pre mrge of 1802 in Llawhaden area, one wonders where the family had come from.

You could well be right Owen, I was not aware of the James Miles - Hannah Thomas marriage.   Was there any mention of fathers' names?   I was only able to obtain John's marriage because his wife had such an unusual name, obscure biblical character the daughter of Caleb.

Goodness knows where the Miles and David families originated.   I have some Miles in my tree going back to the 18th century in Kington St Michael, Wiltshire.
