Hi Lyn you could possibly look at the 1901 census for a George Innes in Aberdeen on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk(they charge you to use the website but you can get certificates online they have birth certificates 1855-1904, marriage 1855-1929, and deaths 1855-1954 also the 1881 1891 and 1901 census for the whole of Scotland i find it a good place to start)

If you let me know your grandfathers name and if you know of any brothers or sisters he had also do you know his wifes name you would be able to get their marriage certifcate online if they married in Scotland. The marriage certificate would give parents names of the couple.
I hope this is of some help, if you need any help in looking up the records let me know. I will see what i can find for you all the best LesleyJ.

Thank you for your suggestions my message was a little on the short side now I have reread it.   I believe grandpa's birth was registered  at St Machar and yes he had a brother Frank and a sister Christine. On grandpa's marriage cert is his fathers name only, George, is that usual?  (can tell I'm new to this as I don't know what to expect on the different certificates) So to search for his father I would have to look in the 1855-1904 census
He married my grandmother out here in Australia when he 26. My aunt and dad don't know when he came out but I guess immigration would be a place to start.
Any way will keep plugging on

Hi Lyn sorry my message wasnt clear, you would have to look for your grandfathers father George in the 1901 census. They would have his birth certificate online as well. If you want to tell me your grandparents names and where about in Australia they got married I might be able to find some information for you to get started. If your grandfather had marrried in Scotand it would show both parents, but since he married in Australia it only shows his fathers name, i might be able to get a hold of your grandfathers birth certificate I am going to Aberdeen next week. I would need his full name though. I will keep looking for you all the best LesleyJ

Hi LesleyJ

I have just recently been sent a lot of information in a gedcom re my relatives on my fathers side and have a Jane TOCHER who married John CHALMERS about 1816.

Jane Tocher was born 27th april 1796 in Commisty, Forgue Parish, Aberdeen and she died on 29th Nov 1872 in Aberchirder, Marnoch.

parents were John TOCHER and Isobel Elizabeth Hay

Are my Tocher's related to yours by any chance and if so in what way? Look forward to your reply

Hi My Jane or Jean Tocher married John Kelman in 26/05/1811 in Turriff, I think I have her in the 1851 census age 61 and she is from Fyvie, I might have her father as a possible James Tocher this is as far back as  I go, I havent done much research on this side of the family yet, I will look into it and see if there is a connection with your family all the best with your research thanks for getting in touch LesleyJ

Hello to all interested in this topic.  To save me from retyping info, can everyone look at my post recently 'John ALLARDYCE Provost of Aberdeen 1700' in particular look at the two website links with the big family trees on there.  A lot of the families were from Rosehearty, Pitsligo, Aberdeen, etc, and I'm sure I've seen some of your Aberdeenshire surnames mentioned in there.

I hope those websites make someone's little genealogical heart flutter.

N.B. Dell aka Fluffnco - Provost ALLARDYCE's descendants connect with the Chalmers of Balnacraig.  Ever heard of them?

Regards, Allycat, in way too sunny Queensland, Australia.

Lesleyj--
I know that the name is common and a longshot for a connection but, you never know. I am researching the Gordon side of my family and have found an unbroken line back to Thomas R. Gordon b. circa 1735 Aberdeen Scotland. He married and had 3 children in Scotland, then moved his family to Northern Ireland sometime between 1765-1770. There is some oral tradition that says he may have returned to Scotland before his death but we are unsure. if you'd like to respond, please use the personal message since it's easier for me to monitor. Best regards,
Charles Gordon
