Hi,

I am researching the SMEDLEY family from SOUTHWELL, NTTS.

Got back as far as WILLIAM SMEDLEY who deid in 1787.

Happy to share info.

I have a William Smedley in my family, born Nov 1805, possibly the son of William S and Elizabeth Elliott, married 1805. any relation?

Hi Jenseek,

The only William I have that might match yours is one who was born in 1787, probably in Southwell.

Where are your Smedley's from?

My William Smedley was born 29 nov 1805, Bulwell, Nottingham, possibly the son of William Smedley and Elizabeth Elliott who were married 29 Nov 1805.
Siblings John, b, 1803, Samuel, b, 1808, Sarah, b, 1809, Elizabeth, b, 1811 and Mary, b, 1814, all in Bulwell, Nottingham.

Any connection?

My William S arrived in Tasmania, Australia ? may have been a convict and married in Tassie 1838, died 1864

No apparent connection I'm afraid - all my Smedley's seem to come from Southwell

My Bulwell Coopers have links with Bulwell Smedleys, and both families have links with Bulwell Spencers who originated from Cropwell.  There are also links with Simpsons of Cotgrave.
