I obtained a large part of the Kilbride parish tithe applotment records for Clara townland, its about 200 plots of land with occupiers' names.
I would have loved to make copies of the originals but the microfilm copy machine wasn't working so I wrote everything down on paper and will use it like a census for Clara. Anyone looking for someone in this area, I have their name, property, and quantity of land.

No. Land Occupiers Names Quantity
a. r. p.
481 Clara Patrick Cassey 3a
Henry McClain 2r
James Sheil 2r
William Spelman 1a
John Connolly 2r
John Grady 2r
Michael Byrne 1a
Edward Kelly, Esq. 8a 3r
It didn't copy over too well, but this is essentially the type of info I wrote down.
In Clara town it will state "house and garden", "house and yard" instead of land in acres/rods/perches.

Some of my Ancestors are from slightly to the east of that area on the 1840s - Lemaghan / Leabeg & Belair. If you have a minute could you see if any were based (or originated) in the Kilbride Civil Parish... the surnames are Cathcart & Wilson
thanks,
Shane

Line 651...
John Wilson....House and plot....Main Street, Clara town
There is a John Carty with a house on Main st. and a James Carty with a house on New Street also but no Cathcarts.
I wish the library microfilm machine was working, I would've copied the entire parish!
-
thanks for that...

Thank you for the offer, when you have time, are there any Gavin or McCormac(k) on the list.
Much appreciated

Line 514...
John Gavin.... House.... Main Street, Clara Town
I have a Cormick but no McCormack
Patrick Cassey and Widow Cormick...Houses each and yard.... River Street, Clara town
-
thanks for that...
Shane
Shane, for your records, there's also a "Mrs. Wilson" with a house and garden on Stirabout Row that I passed over. Next to the entry it has "Brewery". I'm not sure if the house was in a brewery or it was next to one.
-
thanks for the additional data..
...I've noted it with the all the other clues. You never know when they all come together.

I would be gratefull if you would search your record for the name of Donohue.
My gggf James Donohue was born 1827 in the area.

Main Street in Clara Town...

If you are still able to check your records are there any families by the name of SWORD. As always much appreciated

Hi,
such a generous offer and I hope it is still open. I have 2 surnames to check for Clara viz McDonald (aka McDonell) and Kinehan
Thanks very much

Charles Molloy lived in "Bogtown, Clara"in 1861 according to a letter he wrote. Not in GV. Any appearance in Tithes?

Very sorry for the delay, I will get all requests right now for Clara town.
There are no entries of "Sword" or variants of the name...
As for McDonald/McDonnell and Kinehan...
There is a William McDaniel on Main St (house and garden)
A Thomas Kingham in Main St w house and yard.
A Roger Kinaghan with a House and Garden on New Street
And another (or same) William McDaniel appears again on Main st with a house.
BC:
There is a "Bernard Molloy and Miss Kelly" on Main street with a house and garden, any relation?
On Cook street appears a larger Molloy family
James Molloy House and garden
Widow Margaret Molloy: House
And just outside the town:
Bernard Molloy, Esq: 6 acres, 1 perch
James Molloy: 4 acres.
It would seem the widow Margaret may be mother of Bernard and James and the Esquire title/lands may have passed to Bernard. Charles could be a son of any of them
-
Thanks for that. I suspect now that Bogtown, Clara could be between Tullamore and Clara near Coolnahiley/Coleraine where Charles, or a Charles Molloy, had lands shown in GV in 1854. Over to you 'Trapp'.
-
Have you seen the IFHF website? they put up Offaly's records about a year or so ago and I see they have 31 baptismal records for a Charles Molloy. The only thing is, it's a paysite but it's possible to search by parish.
Tullamore's RC parish has a Charles Molloy b. 1830 and a Charles Molloy b. 1850
-
CoI, but thanks anyway.

It is a while since you posted your kind offer - would it be possible to check for anyone of the name Payne or Paine, please. Thanks
-
Sorry, no Payne-variant names within the town. Have you ever checked the 1802 Protestant Census for King's County? Protestants in the Tullamore-Kilbride area are listed and I believe it was in a volume of "The Irish Ancestor". I have a partial of it but it's only the page my ancestors are on. The full name is "Early 19th century lists of Protestant parishioners in the Diocese of Meath"
-
Thank you very much for looking. I will check out the 1802 'census' too.

Hello is this offer still open if so is there any mention of Flanagan on there ?.

The records of these for the 26 counties are now available on line on the National Archives website
see : Tithe Applotment Books - 1823 to 1837 (http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp)

Thank you Shane.

No Flanagans listed in Clara but as of recently, familysearch.org has done a huge job putting together Tithe Applotment records for Ireland. I did a search and found several names close to Clara
Jonathan Flanagan in Erry, Kilbride p.
Margaret Flanagan in Raheen Wood, Durrow p.
Andrew O'Flannagan in Shrah, Kilbride p.
"Flannagan" in Durrow, Durrow p.
There are 3 pages of Flanagans for the county and I believe these books were put together 1825-33.

Thank ou just looking through the site Shane mentioned there is rather a lot :).
