Looking for info on the Warnock family - from in/around Kilmarnock in Ayrshire.  In particular, looking for the family of John, James & William Warnock who left home in Scotland in 1606 as part of the Ulster Plantation - went with James Hamilton to settle in Ireland.

Also looking for info on Warnockland, a property that is/was in the Kilmarnock area -- hope to find Warnocks whose family story(ies) will help identify the family of these 3 brothers.

Hi Judy
Found this
(http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?db=scotirsh&gsfn=&sx=&prox=1&gsco=3250%2cIreland&gspl=1%2cAll+Counties&year=&yearend=&gskw=&ti=0&gss=angs&submit.x=43&submit.y=10&gsln=warnock)

The article goes on to mention Kilmarnock, but no further mention of the Warnock name.

Regards,
Grub

Warnock is an old name in Co. Down. The name comes from the Irish Mac Giolla Mhearnóg meaning a follower of St. Mearnog. First anglicised as MacGillavearnoge

A poster on Genforum feels that the Warnock family line may have arrived before the plantation period when Montgomery and Hamilton were developing lands in Co. Down in the early seventeenth century.  http://genforum.genealogy.com/warnock/messages/628.html

The Clan Boyd site has an extract from "The Origins of Kilmarnock"which shows that there were Warnocks there in 1547. www.clanboyd.info/history/orkil

I have some Warnocks in my family tree.  Northern Ireland, but much more recent than 1750. They married into my McDermott family.
