I believe my Agnes Shiel Welsh Tweedie B. Abt. 1887 Galashiels, married to William Tweedie at Kings Temp., 29 Nov 1912. I was wondering if anyone could find her buried somewhere. She died abt. 1960. If you find her. Could I get the info. on the stone and where it is?

Hi again
Thanks for clarifying the Kings Temp. The Kings Hotel is still there and does not seem to have changed much. Do try the chat room - wonderful searchers in there.

With my last credit for the next couple of months I think... :O( from Scotlands People. You'll have I think 3 years before you can download the death entry online.
1960 TWEEDIE AGNES SHIEL WELSH F 73 GALASHIELS /SELKIRK 775/00 0311
The Cemeteries office for Galashiels is as follows.
Cemeteries Office,
Scottish Borders Council
Heatheryett Cemetery,
Galashiels
TD1 2JL
01896 753856, fax, 01896 753782
Can't find an e-mail address for them
web: www.scottishborders.gov.uk/news/19377.html
The above address also covers the other cemeteries in Gala.
Regards, Steve :O)
(Have also sent you a pm about Ferniehirst which I photographed when down that way a couple of weeks ago).

Hi,
Thanks for the info. I hope it leads me to
the rest of her family. She is my, I think
3 cousin. Say, do you know a man by the name of Micheal Tweedie? He is a helicopter pilot for the Oil Co. somewhere off shore Aberdeen. He and his family live near Monymusk.( I probably spelled that wrong.) A little 90 yr or so old gentleman I met at Sinclairshill told me about him.
Are you from the borders originally?
How did you get that info so easy? Will the history place tell me which cemetery?
I have just started doing this and I hope I get the hang of it before long.
Thank Again,
Gala Girl

My pleasure
There a possibility they may - If you want I can ask tomorrow, as I have to phone them to find out about one of my wifes ancestors who was a sexton at the Eastlands cemetery at the end of the 1800's. I'm a local form the NE - it's my wifes family who come from the Borders. :O)
Your spelling of Monymusk is spot on - I've driven through it many times :O) - I don't know the pilot :O(
To get the info I went to the government website www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. It's pay per view but free to register and do basic searches ( a minimum spend of £6 - allows for download of 5 bmds - assuming a first time hit. I did a simple search with the name you gave me and there was only 1 hit, so for 20 pence I double checked.. . If you check the website I think you can download deaths entries up to 1855 to 1958 - marriages 1855 to 1933 and births to 1855 - 1908. Just checked - those are the dates. Before that there's Old Parish Records.

Getting the Gala cemetery info was done via Google :O)
The link below is worth reading about Scottish research ...

Thanks Steve,
It is great to have the information about Agnes Tweedie. I went on SP and I couldn't pull the deaths up. I have some death information I need from Aberdeen. I can't find my John Hall Paterson family burials or deaths in Aberdeen. The last correspondence I have is post cards in 1911. They lived at 75 Sunnydale, he worked as a clerk at the gas company.
John Hall Paterson B.19 Dec 1859
Elizabeth Drysdale B. 1856-1861
John Hall Jr. B 1883
William B 1885
Elizabeth B 1889
Peggy (Margaret) B 1896
Agnes Mary B 1890
Thanks in advance if you can help.

Hello Gala Girl
Unfortunately it'll be 2 years before you can down load Agnes death details from SP. I'll get on to a relative by marriage if I can't get the info you require from the Cemeteries Office. Haven't had time - shall try next week.
Regarding the Patersons - it's again 2 years before the Scottish 1911 census is published on SP. I'll see if I can find anything. However if you've found nothing - emigration might be the answer.
I see that you have an 'abt' for Elizabeth Drysdales year of birth. There is only one John Paterson marrying an Elizabeth Drysdale in Scotland from 1855 to 1933. If my memory serves me it was in 1882 or 3 on a free search of Scotlands People last night. The marriage entry should give you Elizabeths age at marriage (if she told the truth) and also her pparents names including here mothers maiden name. Like you I couldn't find deaths for the couple. There appear to be a couple of Elizabeth Paterson - other name Hall deaths, but none of the right age.
