I would be very greatfull if any members of the R C forum could help me with the search for the WARD family (John--Annie). What I know is they lived in Ballyward, Co. Down, had a public house and lived near a place called Dolly's Brae :) :) ;)

Could any of these marriages be theirs :
20th June 1890 John Ward married Annie Murray at Newry Civil Registrars Office
in the Parish of Newry, Civil District Newry.
3rd December 1869 John Ward married Annie Hawthorn at Donaghmore Presbyterian Church, in the Parish of Newry, Civil District Newry County Down.

Welcome to Rootschat. I re-formatted your post as writing everything in capitals is considered shouting on internet sites. The help pages have lots of hints and rules like not posting your email address, etc. which you might find useful.

It would help us find information for you or suggest where you can look next if you can give us some more details such as when the Wards would have lived in Ballyward.
If, for example, they were there in 1911 the census for Co.Down is now online and you should be able to find them (there are 2 John Wards in Ballyward D.E.D.).

I'm a bit off a newbie to this site but maybe I can help with some background on the 'Wards' of co Down. The family can be traced back to the 16th century of Bangor co Down, who were of the 'landed gentry'. The seat of the Viscount Wards, Bangor Castle, is the Town Hall and Heritage Centre. Parts of the domain, Castle park and Ward Park are now part of the council ownership and provide beautiful liesure facilities to the public. They went on to build 'Castle Ward' outside Strangford . A National Trust property and well worth a visit, with a wonderful history and many treasures on show.
Ballyward is situated in the heartland of the Mourne Mountains between Banbridge and Castlewellan and is really not that far from Strangford,threequarters of an hour by car, or maybe four hours by coach or horse! Altough it was closer to the Annesley family of Castlewellan, there may have been a connection to the Wards.
'Dollys Brae' is in that area on the the way to Tollymore and still lives in our history. There are various recordings of 'The battle at Dollys Brae' and i'll try to be impartial by providing links to the versions of it..

I have found out that the pub in ballyward was not always a pub. I have been told at first it was a place were horses were changed or rested, a one store building, then an extension was built making it a two store before the pub was added what i would like to know would their have been plans for this, or when did planning permission begin? and if-so were would i go to see them. :) :) :)

It depends entirely on what sort of period you are talking about. Formal planning permission as we know it now is a relatively recent thing.

AGHADOWEY from what i've found out and with a helpful link OULGUNDOG posted for me ther was an incident in the pub at the time of the battle of dolly's brae 1850, i would doubt they have needed planning permission then.
but i was just thinking were i would go to find out in newry,banbridge,or belfast planning :) :)

No such thing as planning permission in 1850s. If you want to know when it would have started you can ring any planning office in Northern Ireland and ask them for an idea of date.

After asking around my search for the ward family has moved to belfast.
john-annie ward 27 old lodge road,1916--1918. it has all been redeveloped now (crumlin rd area)
would their have been a census record for that time?

hello paulmc it's anything to do with the wards that i am interested in. I started this search last year but due to ill health i didn't get to far with it, i have some information about the older wards but not a lot.
what i am doing is working my way backwards from my dad who was john ward who was the eldest son of john and Annie ward my grand perants that owned the pub.

Have you looked at the 1901 and 1911 census?? Hugh King, listed as a servent was my uncle(my grandmothers brother) was actually a cousin of Mary Ward's husband and John Ward(uncle in the census.
I have a marriage of Ellen Ward and Bernard King `1884. Their only child, Mary,
married James King(my great grand parents.
Our verbal history says Hugh King owned land and gave to Matthew Ward???
Are you in Ireland?? What do you know about the current generations??
