Iam wondering if anyone can help with tracing Henry William Bailey's DOB. This gentleman was my grandfather, he died in 1949 and I have the death certificate for him. He married my Grandmother Beatrice Maude Mary Earing (widow) in 1915 and I have the marriage certificate for that. Henry's father is noted as being Harry Bailey Gasworks foreman on the marriage certificate.
I know he served in the war, I have photos of him in uniform and I am told that the cap badge is that of the 20th Hussars, he also served with the labour corp as I have engraved shells with his name on them. Family legend also has it that he served at Buckingham Palace as a guard the ones that wear the bearskin hats, but alas I can find nothing to substantiate any of this. I think the records for his war service may have been destroyed, also with a name like Henry William Bailey it is not easy without a DOB. If anyone has any ideas on where else I an go for this info would be greatly appreciated. Without his DOB I cant go any further back.
I know they lived at 66 Arpley Road Penge but not until after the 1911 census.
hoping someone can help

Hiya Vea,
How old was your Grandfather when he died? Also was his age on his marriage cert?
Have you found him on any census returns?
All this information will help to assist in the search :)

maidmarion Hi
I haven't found Henry reliably on any census returns. There is one that lived in Beckenham which could be a match as they lived in Penge, but at the time they met they were living in Darfield Road Brockley- must have moved to Penge soon after, apparently Henry's father Harry lived near by in Penge. I think he may have had a sister Fanny and or Jane. very lose info I know and such a common name proving very difficult

I'm afraid I don't know London and I don't have any experience of researching there either. :(
Hoping that this is him in 1881 and 1901, it has given you some more facts to assist a search in 1911. :)
